It’s been a while, but I’m in the market again. Are the curados still worth it?

I have and use them all but for me it’s either Lews custom lite or 13 Concept C2 or TX2.

I usually prefer a baitcaster, but I do love my Stradic. Use it more than any other spinning reel, by far.

Plenty of good choices including the Curado, but my current favorite is the Coastal SV. After being a Shimano only guy for years I’m glad I gave Daiwa a chance.

Grew up on shimanos and found an old green curado at my dads today tucked away in a forgotten drawer. I dropped it off
To get prof cleaned earlier.
The guys at my local store suggested the curado 200hg (k) or the daiwa coastal. Can anyone explain why they like more than the other? How’s the magnet braking system on the daiwas?

If you get the SV it’s outstanding; probably the best I’ve used and definitely better IMO than Shimano’s friction system. They have a less expensive Coastal with the next level down brake system and I don’t have any experience with it.

The daiwa coastal SV TW is incredible.
My second choice is the Lew's custom inshore.

Penn Fathom Low Profile 200
Penn Battle 3000
Lews Custom Inshore Speed Spool Baitcaster
Have any of y’all tried the newer Penn Fathom Baitcasters? I absolutely love them. Low profile and they are comfortable to fish. I have 2 of each model, the 200, 300 & 400. I’ll use the 400 for throwing lures for Cobia.
For throwing popping corks I love using a Penn Battle 3000 spinning reel.
I still use a Lews Custom Inshore Baitcaster as well. I’ll use it to throw my lighter baits.
I’ve always loved Penn Spinning Reels. Their drag seems to function the best. When Penn started making low profile baitcasters I completely changed all my gear to Penn other than a couple Lews. I used to primarily fish Ambassduers but they real don’t make them like used to. The old silver 55c were the best. I could cast those a mile, throw light and heavy baits, had the best drag and they could take a beating and keeping on working great. Nearly impossible to tear up. I’ve owned several shimanos but they didn’t seem to hold up like these others. Love the way they fished but weren’t as durable IMO.
ETA: Really not knocking Shimanos. I can be rough on my saltwater gear so it’s probably just me. I still have a few, just don’t use them much anymore. Several times I’ve had a shimano drag not payoff or work while hooked on a good fish. Like I said, I can be tough on my gear but I clean all my shite good after each trip. It all comes down to what you have confidence and that’s what matters most and everyone’s different

Haven't tried one, but they are a saltwater version of the Abu Garcia Toro Beast from the schematics I've read. Same parts, same diagram, just more of the individual components are engineered to withstand corrosion.
So yeah, I 100% believe they are bad arse reels because those abu garcia toro beast reels are awesome.
To the OP:
Shimano just released the Tranx 150 that you should look at. It's designed for saltwater use. The 150 size should be perfect for inshore. If you want a Curado, the curado 150 mgl runs circles around the curado k 200 IMO and with braid the slightly smaller line capacity is irrelevant.

He's talking about the new low profile baitcasters, not the conventional reels also called the Penn Fathom. Not sure why they used the same name...
And the Penn Fathom 2sld are some awesome rig reels and aren't bad trolling eithet.

Might have to check that out. I like the 200 but it's a bit heavy.
