Hitting has been very inconsistent, also.
I wouldnt say inconsistent as much as simply not very clutch.
Even the best hitting teams will have games they only get 4-5-6 hits in at times. For us the only real struggle at the plate I've seen beyond a lot of strikeouts is not getting the timely hits. We are averaging 10.5 hits a game.

It's not even getting timely hits. It's just about doing things right, like moving runners, putting the ball in play with a runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs, getting squeezes down, etc. Wayyyy too many strikeouts with runners on 3rd and less than 2 outs.

Ok but look at the product on the field. We have struck out over 50 times n four games.

correct. people that think this is a great hitting team aren't seeing the bigger picture. they strand a LOT of runners on base and strike out a TON.

We have a top 10 most talented roster in the country.
And none of the “talent” are pitchers. There in lies the problem. You cannot have talent only on offense and expect to win the sec in football. The talent needs to be spread amongst every phase of the game. This roster has talented hitters.
Not to say the defense/pitching cannot improve. Just commenting on where we are right now.

A badass outfield
Looks average to me.
We've got our fastest guy in RF, if he's not sitting for Berry.
None of them have arms that frighten anyone, look at what AtM did last weekend, first to third on a routine hit to LF.

As I have watched the games, I have seen a large number of two-strike counts where the batter simply doesn't attempt to get the bat on the ball--standing with his bat on his shoulder. I do know, though, that what I am seeing on the screen is not what the batter sees when batting. No matter how good a coach is, the player has a choice to swing, and the coach can't control a lot of the things on the field--nor can we. A lot of us have a slow-pitch outlook for playing in a fast-pitch game,..

We have talented pitchers.
Blake Money was a top 200 guy out of HS.
Grant Taylor was a top 200 guy out of HS.
Cade Lansville was a top 100 guy out of HS.
Javen Coleman was a top 50 LHP out of HS.
Eric Reyzelman was one of the top arms in the portal.
Devin Fontenot was one of the top bullpen arms in the country last year.
Paul Gervase has a ton of arm talent.
Garrett Edwards showed promise last year.

The old saying is pitching is 90% of the game, now tell me; how talented is our pitching?

So how many pitchers do we have on par with past studs; Nola, Gausman, or other top 20 pitchers?
A top 200 pitcher isn’t something to brag about.

pitching
Does this team have a single legitimate SEC weekend starter? Does it have 2?

Blake Money could be and that’s it.

You want to know how many pitchers we have that are on par with 2 of the best pitchers to ever play at LSU? LSU has only had 3 pitchers selected in the top 10, Kevin Gausman, Aaron Nola, and Ben McDonald. We don't have a guy like that on this staff, along with 99% of the other teams in the country.

A top 200 pitcher out of HS is nothing to scoff at when most of the top 100 end up signing. That's likely to change now with NIL, but to pretend that we don't have arm talent is just flat out incorrect.

Seems an unbalanced team. None of those guys you listed are pitchers
Posted on 3/24/22 at 11:24 am to UpToPar
Can you really call it arm "talent" if that arm can only throw one pitch? That's the case for a lot of those guys.

Where exactly in this post did you name one pitcher?
You can have the best batters on the planet but if you can’t field and you can’t pitch, it doesn’t fricking matter. No one ever said we lacked offensive talent.
If our pitching and defense don’t improve though it really won’t make a difference.

Which ones?

Of the ones you mentioned, Reyzleman and Gervase. Throw Ty Floyd in there and that's 3 pitchers who throw 95% fastballs.

Gervase threw quite a few sliders and changeups last night. He also has the second lowest WHIP and BAA on the team and the most SO/IP, so I hope you arent suggesting that he doesnt have arm talent.
