BREAKING: New Orleans will no longer require proof of a COVID vaccine or a recent negative test to enter most businesses.

The change is effective immediately. Mayor LaToya Cantrell called the end of the vaccine mandate a “critical and welcome milestone."

...for now.

New Orleans suddenly cares about their economic health.

Wonder what happened. I guess Destroya got paid.

More likely after the Final 4, then comes back for a little bit, then gone for Essence Fest...then back again.

After all this time? She does what she wants. Has to be one of the last places to end the mandate.

So what changed to lift it?

Shouldn't this be a permanent thing for these people?

From the article linked in that tweet:

quote:

Since the start of the year, the city's 311 system has received 325 complaints of businesses violating COVID-19 rules, with all but a handful listed as "pending," according to city data.

What are these people going to do without being able to report people to the authorities?

I would imagine the casino threatened to leave. They had to have a tipping point of low income, and I'm sure they made a call and said we are making an exit strategy if things don't change.

You can't expect tourists, companies, etc, to come to that shithole, and need to Vax everyone just to be in New Orleans for a few days.....especially when traveling from a non required state, like ALL the rest.

The "Bayou Mama Bears" trial is set for April 7. I bet the City takes the position that the issues are now moot because the mandates have been "lifted." In fact, that was the City's argument when it filed a motion to continue the original March trial date on the same day that the City lifted the mask mandate. Now that the vaccine or test mandate is also "lifted," it wouldn't surprise me one bit if the City takes the same disingenuous position at trial, all while knowing that Cantrell/Avegno can re-impose mandates on a whim at any time in the future under the current law.

The best is that they announced it like on Friday? So somehow they had foreknowledge that the virus would magically cease to exist on Monday morning! Amazing!
