Why haven't we signed Armstead yet?

If it comes down to hit, sign him back up, regardless of Watson. Better then a 13 mil cap hit.

The word is he is waiting on Watson. He has offers from other teams. If Watson doesn't sign with us it sounds like he may go elsewhere.
We kinda need to resign him given the deadcap hit.

Armstead can make more money on the open market but it sounds like he's open to taking the Saints lower than market offer for the opportunity to play with Watson.
If we don't hear something prior to 3:00 I'll have big doubts about Watson joining the Saints

can we sign him to a deal that voids if Watson picks a different team?

I am pretty sure they need his signature, they can't just send in the offer sheet and call it a contract

That cap hit of 13 mil is going to be there no matter what.

So I assume he is gone now, regardless of Watson

The new league year starts now. The contracts of Jameis Winston, Terron Armstead will automatically void if they don't have new deals. That's $15.9 million in dead money applied to the 2022 cap. Tre'Quan Smith also has $940,000 in dead money since his contract also voided.

It would have to be extremely team friendly.

Not necessarily. But, if we sign him to a new contract, it will count additionally against the cap, separate from the existing dead money we already have. Unless he agreed to a deal before 3 Pm and it hasn't been reported, we're stuck with that hit.
We are in a tight spot. There aren't a ton of avenues left to create the space we're going to need. Likely we will need players on the team today to restructure their deals and take pay cuts.

This won’t matter at all. They can do a new deal with Armstead and make only $1 million count against the cap on top of the 13 and add voidable years to kick the can down the road. I can promise you Khai Harley hasn’t game planned evert single scenario already.

Yeah, this is incorrect. Look up what happened with Bushrod a few years ago. It’s a separate hit with a new contract. You are right they could do a new deal for only 1 million MORE this year, but that $13.9 is still there.
