And I like it that way.

Hilliard could keep his spot by not giving up 5 ER in 8 innings to Southern and Maine

Hilliard essentially had one bad inning in each game. Against Maine, he gave up 3 hits and 3 runs in the 3rd inning. The rest of the 4 innings he pitched, he gave up 2 hits and no runs. Same thing against Southern. He gave up 2 runs on 2 hits in one inning. The 3 other innings he pitched, he gave up no runs and no hits. He just needs to eliminate the bad innings, but he's been pretty effective overall. Johnson let Floyd work himself out of it against Texas. He's given Cooper multiple opportunities. Hilliard seemingly has the shortest leash of anyone on staff, which is off considering he's a senior and was plugged in as an opening weekend starter. Now, it seems as if he's been removed from even a relief role on the weekend.

This right here.

He didn’t come off as snippy to me, more just frustration over the team playing like crap, and throw in the fact that it was well past midnight and he probably just wanted to get the frick out of there and start working to get it fixed.

Like Nick Saban when he’s asked a question he doesn’t like? Wait until they ask Brian Kelly one.

Speaking of Hellmers did he pitch this weekend?

No, but that's because he started mid week.

When you average 2.16 errors a game and are on pace for 136 errors does it really matter who pitches?

Welcome to Baton Rouge. Nobody held a gun to his head when Johnson signed the contract.

Expectations are over the top for a reason.

I don't know the context of his response and don't have the full perspective of his response. But I'm sure media coverage and fan interest is way different than he received in Tucson. I'm sure it's an adjustment for him.

Too many errors. The pitching wasn’t that bad.

In the fall, Johnson suggested LSU didn’t have a lot of pitching. Said he may have to use 3 or 4 a game.

This coach is no Marinara. This guy cares about his players...from what I can tell.

It’s very hard to judge to overall pitching with the HS amount of errors per game. You can’t expect pitchers to overcome that many errors with this staff makeup currently. Absolutely can’t kick the ball around like they do, it’s not acceptable and you will get destroyed by most SEC teams if you do. Also regarding hitting, when they faced a competent pitcher they haven’t had competitive at bats(for the most part). Tech, OU, UT and Baylor. We still miss WAY too many mistake pitches and swing at BS. That should improve with time and I think that’s why CJJ takes way more offensive timeouts than we have ever seen. Pieces are they just need to get them all to pull the rope in the same direction(ala Skip’s line)

It's Maine and Southern. Should have a ZERO ERA against these type teams. In SEC play will it be double figures of hits/runs?

Pitching wasn't that bad, but it wasn't that good either. What will the pitching be like in SEC games? Was the level of competition last weekend better than the SEC level of competition?

This says something about our pitchers. Not a positive outlook so far.

They better fricking have the infielders fielding so many ground balls that their palms are bruised and throwing across the diamond so many times that they have to ice their arms afterwards.

The left side of the infield was awful all weekend, and RF I don't know what the hell they're thinking. I was told as a kid by my HS & Legion Ball coaches your best outfielder was in RF period.
