I push my advantage and grab as much territory and resources possible.

I think the original aim was to clip off the Russian majority eastern provinces.

But that's probably out the window now.

All his buddy's yachts being confiscated must really be rough on him.

Somehow these nutjobs think that will really force him to retreat.....

He wants the pre-1918 Russian territory. Americans don't understand it because we've never given up any territory.

Hilarious watching people who were freezing Grandma's bank account last week because she donated to a protest, clutch their pearls over what a totalitarian monster Putin is

I’m guessing military advantages. Seeing as he has air superiority, the land forces are advancing or achieved their goals, and he has a sizable sea advantage that Turkey is now supporting.

I thought this stuff was obvious.

I'm sure your many years of battle planning and strategic analysis and access to satellite reconnaissance imaging led you to this insightful opinion, correct?

We've done nothing but complete escalation. If there was appetite among the citizenry for all out war we'd be there. And Putin can see that. God help us.

It is also not going to happen. Russia has no chance of defeating NATO on the battlefield in a widespread conflict.,

Goal of the sanctions is to just absolutely ruin Russia’s economy and hopefully force its people to rise up.
I bet it will backfire and Putin unleashes more violence due to his back being against the wall.

What advantage?

He's able to pour his military forces into another country that doesn't have the strength to push them out, or even hold the line for long. And there are zero other countries willing to step into the fray, so he's free to do that.
That is an objective fact; Ukraine might be putting up resistance, but isn't stopping Russia. And nobody is sending more troops to their aide.

A week ago, a lot of people thought the endgame was to seize territory and force some new boundaries to be drawn. Angry speeches, "sanctions", etc, and at the end of the day concessions by the West. Continued trade with China etc, and normalized relations with the West by 2030. That would have been a win by Russia, probably would have taken that, and "Ukraine" would still exist, but smaller and toothless.

US politicians publicly calling for his assassination might escalate that into there being NO Ukraine after this. The China trade situation will stay the same, and with the desire for oil etc, Russia will be too important NOT to eventually normalize again.

Those are good points but I don't agree. I'll spare you why. We're talking about native Russian territory that were part of pre-1918 native Russia, not third world countries the US overtook for strategic reasons. Lenin created Ukraine. Its a Soviet creation.
