Glad I went in 2014 when it wasn't crowded and this wasn't an issue.

Went last year and this pass was a PITFA to get. We ended up never getting one but it really did not affect us any.
FYI: If you drive thru the gate before the guards clock in (7am I believe) you can spend all day in there without a pass. But once you come out, you cant
re-enter until 5pm when they clock out.
LOTS of people up early getting to the park prior to the guard shack being manned due to this pass.

I saw they even implemented pass requirements for the North Fork/Bowman Lake area. Went a few years ago, and while Going to the Sun was decently crowded, the day we went up to Bowman Lake, I felt like we were the only people up there it was so peaceful and so serendipitous - sort of a last minute choice to go up there and it turned out to be one of my favorite parts of the trip. Seems like all these reservation requirements will kill some of the serendipitous moments that to me can be the best part of visiting national parks.

I’m going at the end of august and when I tried to purchase a pass yesterday, it said my dates aren’t available for purchase until May. Did I miss the early release or does everyone have to wait until 90 days before their entry day?

Glacier National Park is an American country wide park placed in northwestern Montana, at the Canada–United States border, adjoining to the Canadian provinces.

I do not know the answer to your question but I will tell you this..... Remember Montana is on Mountain Time zone so depending on your location you might be logging in to late and all the tickets for that day are bought up. We made this mistake.
Also, start looking on Reddit in the r/GlacierNationalPark threads. People will start offering up their passes.
Side note- Look on facebook for something called the Share Shack. You can borrow things like Bear Spray and other hiking equipment while on your trip. Its an honor system type of thing. We borrowed bear spray while we were there and at the end of our trip we returned the spray and left a small bbq pit, chair, ice chest, some protein bars and some other random but useful items.

We were there last August and the guards would let you in as long as there was parking at either Bowman or Kintla Lakes.

Same with us when we went. Tho they were threatening to shut the entire area down and evacuate due to a wild fire less than 3 miles west of Polebridge. So we hauled arse (thankfully they had just graded the 40 mile long rock road) up there and spent the day at Kintla Lake. We did not make it to Bowman due to time and the smoke was starting to get pretty bad. Even still, that area is beautiful and the amount of wildlife is unbelievable. Not to mention, the Bar in Polebridge serves VERY cold beer and a good burger.
This will be the first place I go back to if I ever make it up that way again.

So we booked a trip after this date had passed and apparently now you have to wait until 24 hours prior to the day you want to visit until they release more. If you are up, and online, at the time the ticketing opens are you likely to get one or is it still pretty tough?

My understanding is a few hundred go on sale the prior day and they go within minutes. Not sure if you have your lodging set but staying in any of the Xantera lodges on GTSR get you a pass for that day. The other option as mentioned earlier is to get in bright and early ahead of the stations being manned

We were in Glacier last June and the Park Ranger said the Road to the Sun still had 30-40 feet of snow on it.
