Memphis has very very very few redeeming qualities.
I’m confident it’s accurately slotted as a ‘shithole’
It’s Jackson Mississippi with a pyramid bass pro and Beale street.

Baltimore gets a bad wrap understandably so, but I’ve had some fun there. There is some cool unique neighborhoods, and the people at welcoming (the ones that won’t rob and shoot you)
Baltimore is a totally underrated party town. They will let you get greasy out there—whole lotta blacking out and puking. That said, it is an absolute dump on every level. Failed local government, failed schools, industry flight with no rebound. It’s New Orleans without the nice architecture and tourism.

Buffalo
Rust belt vibes where they're trying to revitalize old buildings downtown. Have a AAA baseball team, the Bills, and Sabres for sporting events. You can't beat the summers there right next to lake Erie with tons of golf around. Niagara Falls is a half hr away.
The Bills are technically in Hamburg, but point taken. The costs of living is pretty reasonable, and you can get a place on the lake without being rich.

Excellent variety of food especially Italian. And the people are down to earth
I agree with this. The Italian food game is damn strong. Eat that when you visit. Forget about wings and that horrific blue cheese.
I've actually spent a good bit of time in Buffalo and Hamburg. I wouldn't describe the people as super-friendly, but they are a gulf away from the eastern side of the state.

Do people actually look down on Chicago irl? That’s a conservatives on the internet thing.

Chicago my favorite large city in the country.
I'll agree with you on this one. I love visiting NYC as well when I can.

I hated Philly both times I went, but admittedly I had a pretty good time both times.
I don't like to talk smack about someone's home town....
...but Philly absolutely sucks. And it's not for the lack of things to do there or the food. It's awesome when it comes to that. But the people who live there ruin it for me. And that goes for the city and the suburbs. Too many assholes in all of those areas.

It's a little bit of that. But the major entertainment and media players are based in either NYC or Los Angeles. So Chicago doesn't naturally get good press like those towns do.

Fox News don’t like the politics and politicians that hail from here so internet conservatives that have never been to the city like to rail on it

Memphis
Houston
Baton Rouge
Pittsburgh
Chicago
Oklahoma City
The secret is starting to get out about Pittsburgh though, which means a lot of east coasters are moving in unfortunately. The rest of the ones I've listed are highly under-rated relative to their peer cities.

add San Francisco to that
San Francisco is awesome. But it's like NYC in the sense that there has been a decline lately that is of a scale and severity that can't be ignored. It gets some heat for that, and it deserves every bit of it.
I don't think San Francisco is under rated at all though. People know it's an awesome place. That's why it upsets me when they let some of their issues just sort of fester or go unchecked.

It's not any worse than NOLA.

Birmingham shocked me after a 15 year gap in visits. Good restaurants, breweries, and nightlife. Good zoo too and Sloss furnace is always cool to visit to me.

Memphis is IMO the unofficial capital of the south IMO and Baton Rouge is pretty much a 1/6th sized version of Houston. Both are meant as compliments.
Not sure where you are pulling that from? The capital of the South is clearly Ferriday.
Shreveport is underrated. Ocala is awesome, as is GV and Tampa (and in between). Knoxville is also pretty awesome. Colorado Springs is nice (but haven't been in about 8 years so idk if that has changed).
Detroit always gets shite on but its a really cool place.
