While there are trucks in Europe, rail is a primary mover.
It used to be that way, in the USA, to sell scrap steel directly to steel mills. Up to the late 80's they only accepted shipments by rail.

There are new rumors that Ukraine is mobilizing for and may have already started an additional offensive in the northern part of the front in the Kharkiv oblast.
quote:
???? sources are reporting a recent build-up of ???? forces in this area of Kharkiv oblast. There are also reports that a ???? offensive has begun in the Kharkiv area. This is unconfirmed at this time.
LINK
This info is only two hours old and unconfirmed, but if if true and if they can pull off an simultaneous offensives against Izyum and Kherson (2 very big ifs) then Russia is f**ked.
Meanwhile in the south …
quote:
???? have entered the settlement of Arkhanhelske, which is now contested. ???? advanced from the Inhulets bridgehead, capturing Sukhyi Stavok and continuing to the outskirts of Kostromka and Brushkyns’ke, briefly cutting the supply route to Davydiv Brid.
LINK
Ukraine keeps moving closer and closer to Kherson in several directions. Also hearing that conventional artillery hit and significantly damaged the ferries. So Kherson is officially isolated and cut off at the moment if that is true.

Interesting given the report cited at the top of this page.
If the US told them to keep it localized and Ukraine decided to attack on multiple fronts anyway...I wonder if there is anything that can be read into that?

It’s not just the lack of trucks in Ukraine. It’s the terrible state of the roads themselves. Ukraine came in at 130 out of 137 countries for road conditions. That was in 2018 or 4 years before this invasion. Regular 18 wheelers are not going to survive for long on those roads. They need heavy duty military trucks or at least trucks designed for off road poor roads like logging trucks. Might be a good time for Mac Trucks to talk to the Biden administration about entering the foreign military sales market.

Well the US told Zelensky to flee to Lviv or Poland and he told POTUS “I need ammo not a ride.” So it wouldn’t be the first time that Ukraine told the USA

It looks like there’s a squadron of Slovak MiG-29s headed Ukraine’s way pretty quick. They were officially retired from their service today.

The fact that you write serious accusations. Can you provide a proof for at least one charge and I will transfer it to the military prosecutor's office and post all the stages of its consideration here on the forum? Or your photos of being there in a hospital, city, etc.?
Other people were filming during the shelling and they have already posted videos on tiktok and twitter. During the shelling, I was busy trying to move my patients into the culvert that we were using as a shelter or huddled in the shelter and more worried about my safety than I was about filming anything. My evidence is not much. Just videos of the aftermath of the shelling. Even though my evidence is not much. I have already turned over the evidence to the Ukrainian authorities, the International Red Cross, the UN Human Rights Counsel, and the International Criminal Court. I highly doubt anything ever comes of it. However, I am not going to give any thing to you because the Russian government will not prosecute anyone and it would just give Russia a chance to prepare a lie to explain it away. Sorry but I can’t trust a nation’s whose UN representative lies about invading a country while there is live footage of his country invading another country on the split screen with him.
quote:
what 70% are you talking about?
Zelensky was elected with 73% of the vote. His party Servant of the People won a majority in the Ukrainian Rada or parliament with 53% of the vote. The elections were conducted with international observers present and occurred after Victor Yanakovich’s term as president would have ended if he had not fled in the middle of the night and had not been removed as president. Therefore you can not say that those election results were part of a coup or that it was not a legitimate election. Now given these facts how can you say that the Ukrainian people were oppressed by the government that the Ukrainian people overwhelmingly elected in a free and fair election?
quote:
I would like to bet, I will reduce the time. The Baltics have been in NATO for many years. Which of the above is there?
WTF are you talking about? The Baltic nations have been in NATO approximately 15 years. They are off limits to Russia too because Russia knows that if it attacks the Baltic nations then NATO missiles will be flying towards Russia within an hour. Russia will fire missiles back but unlike Russia. NATO has the ability to shoot Russian missiles down. The only place that NATO could not shoot Russian missiles down was if they were launched from submarines in the Arctic Ocean. Now that Finland and Sweden are in NATO we can use Sweden and Finland’s territory to expand NATO’s nuclear shield and shoot down any missile launched from a submarine in the Arctic Ocean.

What about Turkey's announcement of joining the SCO? Did you know about it?
quote:LINK
As of 2021, the Turkish government has not applied for SCO membership.
Once again you show how much you have been lied to. The SCO is an economic alliance not a military alliance. Turkey is not a full member or a candidate member. It is just a dialogue member. Turkey’s president has been invited to a SCO summit. That does not mean that Turkey is leaving NATO. Besides Russia would have to abandon its support for the Assad regime in Syria before Turkey would ever really consider leaving NATO and Russia is not going to abandon its support for Assad so I am not worried about the SCO.
I am too tired to answer the rest of your post and I’m sure others have already addressed it anyway.

Very nice. IIRC the Slovakian MIGs were modernized by Israel in the 2000s and are capable of using Soviet/Russian weapons and NATO weapons.

My bad. That was my downvote. Fat fingered it. I don’t want to accidentally empower any one of these goobs with the slightest faint of support. You are much appreciated WeeWee.

They did undergo a small modernization mostly to their cockpit displays, communication systems and the ability to operate NATO munitions. Slovakia will be getting 14 new Block 70/72 F-16 Vipers in 2024. They had a deal in place before that with Sweden to acquire Gripens instead so Sweden is actively shipping their Gripens even with its relatively low numbers. I’m very vocal in saying I think that is the aircraft that needs to go to Ukraine as their future primary fighter. It really is perfect fit for them. Poland needs to hand over their 23 MiG 29s in the meantime. They know they will get f-16s from us to replace them. 35 fighters between Poland and Slovakia, even older Soviet fighters like the Mig-29, would mean a lot to Ukraine’s capability in the air.

Remember when the entire eastern front collapsed for Ukraine...Look how much progress Russia has made against the retreating Ukrainians.
I'm really in awe of the Russian army.

Over the month of August Russia increased the area of land they control in Ukraine by approximately 460km².
This equates to a total of ~19.48% of Ukraine being occupied. ~0.08% more than at the end of July.

In an article about the UN nuclear inspectors, it stated they had arrived in Ukraine and would have to queue with the other traffic to cross over into the Russian zone. Unless I misunderstood, this implies people regularly cross back and forth in an active war zone. I find this bizarre.

I’m told another energy sector CEO in Russia is dead, Russia will say he’s died of organ failure or some such nonsense but truth is he was a defenestration. I heard this via my guys in Russia, both of which are evidently being monitored closely as part of loyalty checks. I’m always signing off with “be safe” but I’m worried…www.bbc.co.uk has the report up lukoil guy who urged Russia to stop war asap at the beginning.
