Amazon Fire Stick Warning

My parents had some fraudulent activity on their Amazon account (2 monthly charges to Hulu Live), so they reported it to Amazon, which triggered a lock on their account. They called the fraud department and they said response time is usually 1-2 weeks. Not a huge deal, except that without their Amazon Account, the Fire Stick is totally useless. I never thought about how dependent you are on Amazon when using the fire sticks until now.

Just buy them a smart TV.

Always keep a Roku as back up.

I don’t know why we have parental locks set up - (we have all apps on a passcode) this includes the buying function- yet my 2yo bought a movie a few days ago
Who knew that a 2yo was into girl on girl movies …

I have two fire sticks and I hate them. The UI is so fricking slow and laggy, and the remote never seems to work. I also have a fire TV which is only slightly better.
I much prefer the UI of my Samsung Smart TV

Use a roku and DL the prime video app. Granted my fire sticks are old, but I always found the Rokus worked smoother and better.

Create a separate Amazon account in the meantime without prime?
Or are you talking about not being watch prime stuff?

Similar happened to me a few months ago. Was due to my buddy disputing charge on his card for which he had given me to by some IT stuff for work i was helping him with. Amazon shutdown my account which is main acct for all amazon shite in my house. I cant tell you how much of a PITA it was for my daily life. Couldnt order anything from amazon, echo couldnt be used as my morning alarm, no tv from firesticks. I was pissed and it took a 7-10 days in all to be resolves. Buddy called his credit cars company and said it wasnt fraud, i provided all the order details and still had to wait. Then to top it all of, amazon charged my account for the order instead of his card. I tried to be polite to service repa but did tell them it was retarded to disable an account instead of preventing additional purchases.

My wife found a few tiddy bar receipts one time. You REALLY have to watch kids these days.

Keep the Firestick as a backup. I have both and prefer the Roku over the FS by a large margin. The FS is slow, not as easy to navigate and comes preloaded with a bunch of crap using a lot of memory and you can't get rid of it. I put the FS in the bedroom and it is not used very much.

All you have to do is accept apps from unknown sources, download downloader, and install Cinema HD

So why is a Roku >>>Firestick again?

Apple Tv reigns supreme but there's nothing really wrong with the firestick assuming you have solid consistent internet speeds above 200Mbps. Sure it's interface is laggy in comparison but you get what you pay for. The 4k version cost me $30 during a Christmas sale. Hard to beat. And no you don't need an Amazon account to use one. It will stream Netflix, Hulu, AppleTV, HBOMAX, etc just fine.
