Just finished my first ride on the Peloton, quick 20 minute beginner ride but I'm hooked. Tried searching for an existing thread but noting came up.

Anybody here using this? Picked it up for the days when the weather sucks/I don't feel like running. What rides are some of your favorites?

We talked about it some in the biking thread, but not much. We got ours for Christmas, surprised the wife with it, and of course I ride a heck of a lot more than she does.

I did 20 minute beginner rides for the first week or so. I average about 4-5 days a week on it. After I got used to the seat, and bought some cheap padded shorts on Amazon, I started doing mostly 30 minute rides. Matt Wilpers, Ben Alldis, Denis Morton, and Alex Toussaint are the instructors I keep going back to. With Alex being the one I like the most out of those.

I don't do live rides all that often, just because of the schedule, but there are tons of on demand rides that were taped from previous live rides. And I love the sessions. They start every 5 minutes, and there's usually a good selection of 20-30 minute rides, and a variety of instructors and music. I like something fast like rock or hip-hop to ride to.

If you're on Facebook, there are several groups. I joined the Peloton Dads group, and the guys in there are great.

I was more enthused when i first got it 1.5yrs ago but still ride 2-4x per week. I choose based on the music more than the instructor.

Kendall Toole, former USC cheerleader, is easy on the eyes but provides a tough workout. She’s only 27 but acts more mature and plays classic rock from long before her time and hard metal.

Jenn Sherman is good. I like Alex Toussaint and Dennis Morton. Christine DErcole is good too. I like Robin Arzon as well, interesting backstory that is worth a read on Wikipedia.

Ben Aldis is one of the most boring instructors and will never take another class from him. On the other end of the spectrum is Cody, who is obnoxious but all the women love him and provide him a cult following. I avoid him.

I got my bike last Friday and started Sunday. It’s so convenient to get a workout in that the bike holds me accountable. With my work schedule, getting workouts in on the morning was a pain in the arse. So far my favorite instructor is Dennis Morton.

At first I didn’t like the peloton. I’m not really into the “rah rah” feel good instructor telling you to “unlock your potential”. Felt like every ride was a counseling session for a broken gen z anxiety riddled woman.

But then I started doing Power Zone training. Highly recommend the discover your power zone series. Matt Wilpers is my favorite instructor, more like a coach than a counselor.

Basically you do a fitness test that will give you 7 zones. Then you train based on those zones and retest, so you can track progress

I got mine last April. Closing in on 50 pounds lost doing pretty much just peloton and eating a little less. Try to do it 5-6 days a week, usually 30 minutes. Occasionally do an hour if my wife isn’t home and I got nothing else going on.

I go for Emma Lovewell just about any time she has a 30 minute ride. I hate Olivia Amato because her speed/resistance numbers are unrealistic.

I love the bike. I have had mine about 3 years and about 750 rides total. I would say Alex, Kendall and Olivia are my 3 favorite instructors. Emma is awesome too. Take classes with everyone and you will find favorites. Some days I ride shorter and some longer periods of time. My go to is a stack with 5 minute warmup, 30 minute hip hop or rock, 5 minute cooldown.

Unfortunately, out of the saddle riding just a few days ago and the pedal snapped off. The threaded section stayed lodged in the crank arm. I tried getting it out with a couple of different methods just so I could replace pedals myself, but, with no luck. Finally gave up and contacted Peloton and they will have to replace the crank arm. I have had a lot of trouble with their customer service. After multiple phone calls, emails and forms, I finally had an appointment for them to come fix it, then I get an email this past Saturday saying they have a scheduling conflict, have to re-schedule my appointment and will contact me about re-scheduling. Need to try and get hold of them again today to see what the deal is.

Had ours since around Thanksgiving and absolutely love it. I originally thought the instructors were going to be lame and had got it out of work schedule conflicts like many others in this thread.

I have really enjoyed taking classes with friends who have one as well. The competition really gets me going and I get a way better workout when doing it.

If you really wanna f yourself up, do a Kendal Toole metal ride, that shite is intense. I also like Jenn Sherman too because she cusses a lot.

After 5 emails and 6 phone calls I am happy to say my bike is fixed! Repairman came by at 8:30 last night. Luckily he had a spare crank puller with him to remove the crank arm. Also lucky I have plenty of tools because he had to borrow mine to complete the repair. He said that Peloton was supposed to send me a crank puller with the new parts.

All in all, my fault, and lesson learned. Replace pedals every 1-2 years depending on how much you use it so you don't run in to needing repairs that could have been avoided.

I haven't rode since February 1 when the bike broke and already have my stack ready. Jumping back in full steam.

-5 minute Kendall warmup.
-45 minute Kendall intervals and arms.
-5 minute Kendall cool down.

What is everyone gonna do today for their rides? Drinking coffee now. Thinking I am going to have to take it a little easier today to give my legs a rest day, but, still want to get them moving. Thinking of a low impact ride.

Does anyone track their progress by week? I am starting to keep track of my rides and comparing my numbers week by week to try and keep track of if I am improving overall per week. Just logged a full week last week.

I am tracking:

1. What type of ride.
2. Instructor.
3. Total time.
4. Total distance.
5. Total output.
6. Total calories.

Output is tough to measure with other people, but, tracking your own is a good baseline for yourself I think.

Main two things I want to compare week by week for overall gains is increase in miles per minute rode and increase in output per minute.

Does anyone do anything like this, or, have any other or better ideas on metrics to track?

How often are you all tightening the clips on your shoes? Have about 20 rides on mine and last night they felt super loose. The screw in the bottom was so loose I could tighten with my hand.

Surprised I’m just finding this thread. I’m a pretty active Peloton rider — I’m typically at 5x each week (been aiming for 6x) and always take Sunday off. Alex Toussaint is the instructor I take most, but I try for Olivia Amato a couple times each week to kick my arse. For every couple days of heavier rides, I’ll take a 30 or 45 minute Low Impact.

I take advantage of their strength work off the bike, too. Really enjoy Rad Lopez and Chase Tucker.

ETA: I’ve done a few Lanebreak rides. Kind of fun, I guess, but I hate the constant adjustment of resistance.

Found a guy on FB market place that is selling an original pelaton bike with all the hardware for $1,000. Barely used. Comes with the big screen. Should I jump on this? Wife and I are sick of the treadmill.

Got an echelon in december. Did scenic rides for first two months then started classes arms / intervals and core / intervals. lost 10 lbs(wasn't too chunky before) but I'm in better shape now than I have been in decades.

Jumping in here…wife ordered one last month and loves it so far. I ordered some Fizik shoes and cleats on super sale from Amazon and decided to give it a go last weekend. Solid workout for sure. Think I’m going to work in some peloton for cardio in lieu of running due to this excessive heat.

Looking at ordering some padded shorts, any recommendations? Nothing fancy, just budget friendly and will hold up relatively well.
