Surprised neither played last night
What was the deal
Not complaining because we won, but wondered why neither played

No clue.. both could’ve helped on the boards and interior defense

Wade has never played more than an 8-9 man rotation. I think he’s still trying to figure out who his best 8-9 are. Fudge had some terrible defensive assignments in the previous game.

He said after the game the 8th man will be interchangeable game to game. Justice was the guy tonight. Looked like he preferred the smaller lineup. May be different against other teams

Think Williams, Fudge and O'Neal will work interchangeably in that 8th spot or when/if we get into foul trouble.
Having a 4 guard rotation is nice. Will also see more of O'Neal when we play bigger teams.

I'd like to see Fudge play some, but he's been pretty bad the last few games.
And I just get the impression O'neal still isn't fully healthy.

WW stated in the press conference following the game he wanted to keep it at 8 . 5 starters with Gaines and Eason off the bench and then whoever practiced the best in that week between Fudge, O'Neal and Williams. He said he's gonna stick to this for the following weeks. He said he's trying to get back to that continuity and rotation.

Eason definitely looked like he needed some rest down the stretch
Plus Days is always in foul trouble it seems
Desperately needed the win though so you do what it takes
Win these next two home games against MSU and UGA and they should be in decent shape and other than at Ark and UK they have a chance in the remaining games but they could also lose games they have no business losing
If they just could have beat Ark at home and not lost to Ole Miss or Vandy

Fudge has had all kinds of shite TOs the last few games and a few blown assignments on defense.
O'Neal needs to just be in there to protect the rim and rebound.
I'd like for both to get in the rotation, but apparently it worked last night with them not in it.

People keep using "healthy" as a surrogate for "good". He's as healthy as he ever will be at LSU. He just won't be a better player.

You do realize the kid hasn't played much bball the last few years because of heart surgery and last years foot injury.
I'm not going to say he will be great, but to think he can't keep improving as he plays/practices more is extremely short-sighted.
But, of course this is the rant so shite away on our players.

Fudge is a liability. Not hating on the kid, but he turns it over essentially every time he touches the ball

A&M plays a very small lineup, we were matching up to that.
They play 3 sometimes 4 guards at a time basically. It's not in our matchup interests to have 3 bigs on the floor as a counter to that.
With Pinson back it gave Wade the ability to comfortably play 3 guards at time which we did a good bit of between Pinson/Murray/Gaines/Williams.
A&M played nobody over 6'8 last night. The 2 guys they played between 6'7-6'8 was Ethan Henderson at 6'8 who played all of 7 minutes and Henry Coleman who played 32 minutes. So for 1 big spot basically they played 2 6'8 guys all night.
So 9 of the 11 players A&M played last night were 6'6 or shorter. The other 2 guys were only 6'8 and basically filled 1 spot in the lineup all night.

Look I’m not saying I know more than WW but imo, O’Neal is a better player than Efton right now. Sure Efton has that hook shot but O’Neal is a better rebounder and shot blocker and that’s what this team needs.
Maybe O’Neal gets out of position on defense or something that I am not aware of but I’m shocked that he hasn’t taken efton’s minutes.

The problem with O'Neal is he has missed so much time over the last few years he is very very rusty. He is a skilled big but it takes time to get ease back in 100%.
In one of the recent lsusports videos following basketball this year it features O'Neal and he says he basically JUST is getting back to 100% very recently. He's had a rough go the last 3-4 years.

Efton does have a hook shot . . . . . unfortunately, it's not a very good one.
O'Neal needs to play equal or more minutes than Efton.

Makes sense, since A&M I believe is the smallest team in the SEC.

Thunder I think you’re a smart basketball mind, am I crazy for thinking that O’Neal brings stuff to the table that Efton doesn’t?
I’m not an Efton hater either, I think he has a good foundation to build on but he’s just a step to slow and not aggressive/strong enough right now.

Hes not a better rebounder though. Wade said the other night they usually tell efton to box out the other teams big and they dont care if efton gets the rebound, as long as the guy he is boxing out doesnt get the rebound.
Reid had a solid game last night and did much better covering ball handlers at the top of the key.
Reef constantly looks lost on defensive rotations.

I dont think it's any question O'Neal is more skilled and can bring more to the table than Reid, that's not the issue. The issue is O'Neal's health and him basically not being to give it a go at or near 100% the last 3-3.5 years. Being "off" for that long has made him really rusty and it was never going to be an instant "Shareef is back" type of thing. I would love for Shareef to be a 15-20 minute a game guy in the rotation but that's just not reality right now. Reid can give you the minutes, Shareef is still working his way back.
I think some people saw that first A&M game where he played 20 minutes and had 7 points as "oh man Shareef is back!" type of thing but he also had 4 fouls and 4 turnovers which isnt great in 20 minutes. He's still figuring things out.
