I thought that it was a red flag when they changed their name from FB to Meta.

If your name/brand and business is booming you don't try to disassociate from your name/brand.

It made me wonder if their earnings would be bad.
A "hey, ignore FB earnings and shrinking base, we're not even FB any more, look over here, Meta !"

I wouldn't touch fb with a 10 foot pole.

1. Apple has basically crippled their ad business and that is where the majority of their ad revenues come from.

2. There has been and is still regulatory pressure surrounding their company from both republicans and democrats.

3. They threatened to pull out of the EU and the EU is basically saying... "good, please leave."

4. The metaverse that they are trying to expand into has a ton of other players in it. The oculus is a cool niche gaming device, but Google, Apple, and Microsoft all are going to be coming out with hardware that competes with it.

I bought some. I guess its the proverbial falling knife, but we shall see. I was anticipating a bounce, but obviously that didn't happen.

I bought today. Lots of negativity baked in and they’re sandbagging for next quarter.

It is easy to say "well the other big guys will just come out with awesome products too." Look at someone like Zoom who jumped into video chatting out of no where and have eaten up a big market share.

Oculus is already a great product, and they are pouring tons of money into making is sleeker and more user friendly. I would imagine in a couple of generations in wont be the clunky looking headset it is now. Having first mover advantage in this area is huge.

FB still has a massive profit engine with its social media dominance. The Apple ATT is an issue, but it certainly isn't going to kill profitability. FB is a cash generating machine, and they haven't even really monetized WhatsApp and their huge user base. I would be concerned if they were funding this metaverse play by issuing debt, but they are just using some of their huge cash reserves. If the metaverse doesn't play out, then they can just fall back on $50B/yr in profits from their main business. I think people would be right to be concerned if this stock was at $400+, but I just don't see much risk at $220.

This Apple issue has just shown FB how important it is to own your own platform which is what they are trying to replicate with the metaverse.

Apple will destroy the oculus whenever they release a headset. I say that as someone who has an oculus.

I didn't like their commercials to introduce Meta. Seemed like booking a tour to a third world country with poor graphics.

Same and same. The design will be superior, the rollout will be superior, it’ll carry the prestige of being an apple product, and it’ll be seamlessly linked to all the other products in their ecosystem

They don’t miss on shite like this
