Kris Richard & Ryan Nielsen will be strong candidates for promotion to defensive coordinator on Dennis Allen's new Saints staff. I've heard Allen will likely hire someone from outside to be the offensive coordinator. Pete Carmichael is expected to remain on staff, but not as OC.

Follow up from Underhill:

There have been a lot of credible rumors going around tonight about Carmichael taking on a different role. Going to be interesting to see how it comes together.

I know it’s an extremely unlikely lateral move but after we spent so much time with Bieniemy… I’d love it.

It was reported earlier this evening that his contract with KC is expiring so he actually could choose to go be an OC elsewhere relatively easily

Seems unlikely but it’s more likely than it would be if not for that.

If he's wanting a HC job, maybe leaving KC is the way to go

I was thinking exactly that when I first saw that Allen was getting the Saints gig, presumably over Bieniemy. EB has been treading water under Reid and I think he needs to at least get out to a place where he's clearly the guy calling everything on offense. And if Allen doesn't cut it... maybe you have the next guy ready.

Hire Bienemny as OC for the future comp pick benefits. Will pair well with the picks from CSP trade

I mean a lot of what’s holding teams back from giving him a head coaching job is probably the lack of knowing how much he has to do with the chiefs success. I could see him making a move to a team like New Orleans where he’ll have complete control to try and prove himself some more. I still think it’s unlikely but it could make sense.

If Bieniemy comes in as OC and the team lights it up, he will be a head coach next year. If he can replicate his success in KC with the scrubs we have, he may be the greatest OC of all times.

He's signing with the chiefs again on a one year deal so it won't be him

This was my exact thought when it was reported we spent 8 hours interviewing him then immediately hired Allen. Maybe getting away from Reid and proving himself would get him the HC job he’s looking for

I don't know about the best of all-time, but Bieniemy would definitely boost his brand getting out from under Reid, the same way Josh McDaniels boosted his stock when Brady left NE. I've been saying that for a while that he needs to branch out to a different team where he could run his own offense and develop his own players. No one is going to want to hire a Reid coordinator after the Matt Nagy experiment in Chicago. Same will happen to McVay and Shanahan coordinators if Kevin O'Connell and Mike McDonald don't do well at their respective new jobs.

The Saints need someone on the offensive staff that has developed a QB ever. I could be wrong but I think Payton was more responsible for reigning in Jameis and Teddy than Carmichael.

Bieniemy was the RB coach Mahomes's rookie year but then would have been offensive coordinator not calling plays, it's hard to judge how much success the Chiefs had because of Bieniemy.

Bieniemy and Carmichael are probably more similar than different, but at least Carmichael has some playcalling experience. In addition to someone to develop a QB, they need a strong voice on offense. It happens to every team every year when an offense goes to ****, and when that happens you need someone to be a strong voice that players will stop and listen. A coach, a QB, someone ... and the Saints don't currently have that.

Why does Bieniemy get dinged because he works under Andy Reid but none of the OC’s from the 49ers or the Rams that were hired as HCs recently get the same concern? McVay and Shanahan call the plays just like Andy Reid.

Because no one had been hired yet from under them? Matt Nagy pretty much set the tone for Reid OC's. Bieniemy needs to get away from him.

I personally would rather a former QB than a RB guy

Shanahan’s tree has McVay and Matt LaFleur. Young up and coming OCs are the hip
New trend. Reid’s OCs are Matt Nagy and Doug Pederson. Pederson has a Super Bowl, but most credit Frank Reich with carrying him.

Not saying it’s right or wrong, just the perception.

I still see the same risks with Bieniemy as if he’d been hired as HC. We don’t know how he’s going to do on his own.

I’d like to see Allen bring in a more established OC with QB background. The defense is championship caliber, but for how much longer? We can’t waste this defense like we did the offense for so many years.

Who is this more established OC? I don’t know. But I’m not sold on Bieniemy’s experience at this point. Too many unknowns.
