Status update from Wade prior to Vandy game:

Not exactly ideal situation here.

The injuries that have been known for weeks are the knee sprain with Xavier Pinson and the ankle sprain with Darius Days, both injuries the players are trying to play through.

But the list doesn't stop with them. Guard Eric Gaines is playing through a wrist injury. Brandon Murray has a beat up thumb that makes it hard for him to catch a ball, much less dribble and shoot. Justice Williams has a toe injury that requires a shot before every game just for him to be able to play.
Not exactly ideal situation here.

Wasn’t long ago you were bragging about being 9 deep it seems
6 players are playing injured or are just out right now
I dont get how this isn't getting through to some of you. That's a decimated lineup.

This team when fully healthy was on track to have the best defensive season of ANY team in the last 10 years. Your starting PG goes down and then a few other players get injured and the productivity goes way down, its not like we got magically worse. Losses to Ole Miss and Vandy were definitely worrisome but lets not jump off a cliff here people. You don't just randomly go from historically elite to average all of a suddent.

quote:where were you to say things like this when O was getting drilled into last place in the west? I never saw you criticize him like you do wade. Why is that?
You expected to lose to the bottom of the SEC and a middling Big 12 team that had just been dominated by Texas days prior?
Wow. You're good.

Both our ball handlers are out
Gaines is playing through an injury
Murray is playing through an injury
Williams is playing through an injury
That's all 5 guards out or dealing with injuries recently.
Then Darius Days is also playing through an injury.
It really sucks LSU is the only team in the country dealing with injuries.

We went from historically elite (your words) to believe average all of a sudden so it’s definitely possible to go from elite to average.
And it’s not all Pinson. Teams have a book on us.

"He's ONLY won one SEC regular season title in his four years..."
This dumbass does realize that LSU has won a total of 3 SEC Regular Season titles during the 26 years prior to when Wade was hired. That's average of about 1 ever 8.6 years, WW got you one in 2 years.
I'm all for questioning coaching decisions, but to pretend that an SEC title and 3 NCAA appearances is somehow below LSU basketball standards is insane. His success has SET the LSU Basketball standards.

It’s injuries and it’s also opponents adjusting. Teams are starting to stretch our defense knowing that we’re so knicked up and using our aggression against us by putting us under pressure to foul and sending cutters into the gaps the switching creates. Offensively they’re starting to play more pack line type defense since we’re not a great shooting team. Seen some zone too. Teams like to go zone when Days goes to the bench as he’s our main outside shooting threat.
The biggest fallout of the pinson injury for me is we lose the trump card of bringing Gaines and Eason in after the first timeout. Days missing some time and the subsequent shakeup of the rotation also screwed up the equilibrium a bit, Eason has had some cramping problems. Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong going back to Miller. Hopefully we’ve hit the bottom and will start floating back up from here.

That quote on getting too many big guys is spot on. He needs to focus more on skill sets than size.
I’m assuming this is why Jalen Cook ended up transferring. Wade wanted length for defense, but seemed to underestimate the effects it would have offensively.
Glad he sees his mistakes though. He’s still a young coach with room to grow.

If you would like to list out the good teams who have both their ball handling guards out and every other scholarship guard on the roster dealing with injury, I'm all ears.
It's amazing how some of you dont understand how bad of a roster situation that is.
Auburn would be in shambles if they didnt have Jasper and Green playing, along with multiple other guards like Johnson etc...hurt. Then as a cherry on top, a guy like Kessler or Smith Jr. playing through an injury.
Heck, Auburn just nearly lost to UGA with Jasper out (and everyone else playing). It's almost like not having a ball handler can really hurt you.
Last year Auburn didnt have a ball handler really. They had Flanigan playing PG for them most of the time. Their big time guard Cooper missed a ton of time. They were not a good team finishing with a losing record on the season.

Bruh are you serious? The all of the sudden is the injuries and health.

Wade is an excellent recruiter.
I just think he recruits the wrong guys. His rosters are almost always lopsided & weighted to one strength.
Athleticism over skill just about always. Need more of a blend
