Not sure. I just cannot stand we banter about it. There is no doubt a double standard. It cannot be denied. Why are we making it worse is what I was saying. I just like to talk sports with all of you and plan to continue. We need to be better then this.

Let’s focus our energy on exploring the great injustice of billionaire level investment opportunities instead of the fact that 64% of US black kids live in a single parent home when the rest of the world is sitting at 7%.

It’s not quite that simple but the fact is guys with similar and even lesser resumes have gotten jobs so it’s not just that they are not the “best” candidates.

Think this mentality no longer exists?

we are going to have the Rooney Rule, when is there going to be the Jason Sehorn rule. All teams must try out a White Cornerback before signing someone to that position. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

The white CB as a comeback is so ignorant. You can point out the problems with the Rooney Rule without being this dumb.

I always chuckle when I see people make races plural.

Blacks, whites, Asians, etc,etc…

Why isn't Pete Carmichael a head coach yet?

Has he expressed an interest in or pursued head coaching opportunities? I honestly don’t know but if he has that proves what exactly? 1 white guy was overlooked?

Agreed. I gotta go to bed for work but I will leave it as this. Shad Khan if he is smart which I am pretty sure he is business wise would hire the best African American candidate for the job and then let free agency happen for the Jags organization.

Dims and Goodell is a bad mixture

I wouldn't piss on either one of them if they were on fire, I'd throw more gasoline on

I mean the Rooney rule, yeah it sets up black people to have sham interviews. We've known about it and joked about it for years so idk how people can be so shocked hearing about how that plays out. We've always known that it happened that way because it was mandated.

The biggest storyline to me was Ross offering to pay Flores money to lose games. On one hand, yeah that's blatant match fixing which is actually illegal let alone against company policy. On the other hand, maybe he was on to something because if Flores had actually tanked that year they'd have gotten Burrow instead of Tua. But then again, Herbert was still available but the Dolphins still took Tua ahead of him and they'll regret that for years.

The guy calling people racist in here is calling for an nfl owner to hire a guy strictly based on his race

Awesome

Probably far more than one. If most of the coordinators are white, most of them with aspirations get overlooked.

Damn we done pulled out a 34 year old interview of a baseball executive to make a case for we don't have more black NFL coaches.

MAYBE THEY NEED TO BE:

Quote: I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean, that's a storybook, man."

And he doesn't see how that could possibly be racist.

Actually not calling anybody racist and if you felt that way I am sorry and truly apologize. The Jags situation is different. They have been sucking it up for years and cannot get a coach period. Then you have free agency. The thought process is if you hire an African American candidate that guys would want to come play here. Why don’t they just hire someone.

I think the bigger question is are successful black Asst Coaches being groomed to lead organizations? if not, then why? Tomlin’s #1 attribute is leadership, where did he succeed where others failed?

No I used as an example of a mentality that existed in the not to distant past. If you think that it no longer exists that’s pretty naive. Look at Gruden’s emails. Or I could give you and anecdotal personal example. I sat in the stands at the 1994 Independence Bowl when LSU played Michigan St and listened to some fans behind us that were our age or younger (mid to late 20s in the mid 90s) openly discussing how they hope LSU replaced QB Herb Tyler (a freshman at the time) because they didn’t what a *black guy* at QB for LSU (please note black guy was not the word they used).

I do think Lawsuits like Flores and screaming commentators calling everything racist are counter productive. But it’s not simply “the best guy” gets the job.

Sports has been more racially forward than any other line of business because winning is how they make money, and black athletes help them win. If the color of the skin mattered relative to coaching ability, you could be damn sure the owners would be all over it. The fact is that there are a lot more white kids who love sports and eventually reach the level of not being good enough but want to stay involved and go the coaching route. It’s well established that you can be successful coaching at an elite level without having been an elite athlete. There’s even an argument to be made that superior athletes make inferior coaches for a number of reasons.

As far as leftwich and bieneme, there’s lots of whispering that they would rather wait it out at a good franchise than jump to a shitty one (like Jacksonville or Houston).

The more that black kids keep hearing about what they can’t be because if systemic racism, the less they will try and the worse off they will be. The bar is so much lower in almost all fields that if anything there is systemic racism In favor of them. This all of course makes it easier to overlook the horrific erosion of the two-parent household and its effects, so the main source of their issues goes unaddressed for another generation.

Agreed and really shows the NFL needs a lottery or some sort of anti-tanking mechanism.
