The Remake of Dune

I'm sure there has been threads about the remake but I am into 1 1/2 hours of this so called remake and it sucks. I saw the original in the theater and maybe I watched the original too many times. This remake misses the mark on so many different things. I'll take the original and leave it as is. IMO, never redo something that was absolutely great.

It’s not a remake, dummy. You do realize it’s a book, right?

The new version tells half a story, I don't think what they made was bad I just don't agree with how it was released without actually telling a story.

Of course you idiot. The remake doesnt follow the books.

First off- the movie LOOKS fantastic, but you need to know the story already to understand what's going on. I didn't read the book(s), but saw the first film... I can follow along pretty well because I know what happened in that. But that shouldn't be necessary to a viewer of any film.
Second- "half a story"... if you go by the 80's film, we're about halfway through that. Fine, stretch it into multiple films if you want to expand the story (make money
But fricking make those films. Like, you have the cast on hand at the sets required while filming this one. Do like LOTR and film as much as you can, so that you can release the next film in a timely manner. My understanding is, they DIDN'T do that. Which makes zero sense. If you're unsure the sequel will be greenlit, then cut some scenes and make the entire story in a film. If you already know it will be made, do your diligence and film them all.

This is confusing me on a couple different levels

I'm an avid fan of the book, and I thought the most recent movie was incredible. When part 2 releases, they will almost certainly become the definitive Dune movies for me.

the best version so far is the SyFy channel mini series

I didn't remember the book or the original and thought it was a good flick

You don’t remake a book, moron. Do you speak English?

You must have a terrible memory. No offense.

Dune 2021 is one of the most gorgeous other-worldly sci-fi films ever made, first off.
Secondly, it is infinitely more inviting/digestible story-wise than the 80s movie because it mainly focuses just on 3 groups: House Atreides, the Harkonnens, and the Fremen.
In the first 15 mins of the 1984 movie, we were introduced to the House Corrino/Emperor, the Bene Gesserit witches, Space Guild/navigators, House Atreides, the Harkonnens, and the Fremen. I actually took notes and was still confused throughout, particularly since Paul was also called a million names: Paul Atreides, Kwisatz Haderach, The One, The Sleeper, Usul, & Muad Dib. Seriously, WTF? Don't cram an 800-page novel into a 2 hr movie. Trim that shite ...AND make a part-2 sequel.

I think it's a fun film, but I knew the plot and understood a few things that didn't get expressed clearly this time around. You just don't get the level of treachery of Dr Yueh's betrayal here. It seems like the Atreides were lax on security, when in fact what happened was considered impossible. There are other points that I won't bother to dig up now... the main gist is that this film seems to have been made specifically for people who already knew the big picture. In that light, it's great.
But I took the original tale as a very complex political mechinations and intrigue, where if you don't know any better, this film is pretty simple.

I’m pretty sure people who don’t like this movie have had their appetites spoiled by a decade of excruciatingly loud and stupid super hero movies made for kids with ADD who forgot to take their medicine.
The movie is beautiful and as close to perfection in terms of representing the classic book as well as we could ever hope for. I think some people just can’t handle the fact that it’s patient and intentional and expects the audience to have half a brain cell.

The cinematography and soundtrack of that movie is first class. I did think it ended rather abruptly and somewhat anticlimactic but I'm assuming there will be a sequel? I haven't read the book(s) so I don't know how the movie aligns with them

Pretentious much? I didn’t care for it bc it was half a story. If you need to read a book before you can enjoy a movie, it’s not a perfect movie.

Plus, the chicks were a lot hotter in the original.

I could do without Dave Batista.
Way too much Col. Kurtz in the Baron.
Completely whiffed on Dr. Yueh’s betrayal.
Loved the mentats doing their thing, wasted opportunity with Thurfir.
Duke Leto and Lady Jessica were great.
Gurney Halleck was too dour, that was a whiff.
Duncan Idaho was great, the only real connection with Paul in the film that felt realistic. Missed opportunity, Thurfir, Dr. Yueh, Gurney all had meaningful relationships with Paul that didn’t come across on film.
The scene between Paul and Duke Leto at the graves of the Atreides was fantastic, maybe the most engaging moment of the film.
Ferguson was great as Lady Jessica, DV really understood her character.

First off, Villeneuve said he would only do the film in two parts, because it's impossible to do the story credit in one film. And he's absolutely correct.
Second, the studio said they would only greenlight the first film until they saw how it did in the box office. The studio immediately greenlit the second film a week after release.
So if you're pissed off about how long between movies, blame the studio, not Villeneuve. We already got a version of Dune in one film, and it left waaaaaay too much shite out.

So did this one, and they can’t go back and fix it.
