I do agree that the playcalling might not have been best for the situation, but saying he should be fired immediately is a little over the top.

Here's the question: How many games does he have to blow to get fired? It happens all the time. Do you not remember the double reverse last year with the Saints ahead?

It kills the clock so that the vikings have less time to drive for a winning score.

They intentionally ran off over a minute to kick the game winning field goal, so you could really make the argument that we wouldn't have even gotten a kickoff back to us by your rationale.

That Gramatica FG was no good from 33 much less 43 or 46 or whatever it was. He just shanked it.

dont worry Deacon we all should have known Gramatica misses and leaves a short field,

hell Bush woulda fumbled and they return in anyway....this is what I get from these posts.

Payton has no idea how to manage a clock, simple as that. Of course we prolly dont need the 3 without the onsides kick.

We were in a weird spot with the time clock, running wouldn't have changed anything really. All signs pointed to the Vikings stopping us and us only getting one shot at the first down. Then if Henderson runs the right route on 3rd down we probably have a first. Then your kicker's only fricking job is to make a fricking field goal and he can't do it.

Why not just kneel the ball then? That would be the safest possible play.

I think we can all agree that in hindsight, kneeling the ball would have been prefeerable to two incompletions. At least the clock would run.

The other thing everyone is ignoring is that the Saints have second tier (at least) receivers in the game. No Colston, no shockey and evidently no Patten. So you are throwing the ball to Henderson or Moore instead of giving the ball to Deuce or Bush.

How did Payton blow this? If we run it twice at the end, Grammatica still misses. He didn't want to make Grammatica win the game and we have no running game. He put the ball in our best players hands and it didn't work out. Vikes still have the ball with ~1:45-1:50 left in the game with a TO.

this is 100% correct but it's pointless to even try.

bnap, I haven't said shite to you, but you have decided to come after me personally with nothing to add. frick off and let someone blow off some steam without making an arse of yourself.

Edit to add: I didn't say anything about timeouts in my first post. I only discussed timeouts later.

Payton's biggest clock frick up was not letting Peterson score after the PI flag!

What would you rather-

down 7 with 1 minute & 2 Timeouts left or

down 3 with 12 seconds & no timeouts

Where is Deuce McCallister? You have just over 2:00 in the game.
