Ironic that my in-laws, who believed the Russian collusion stuff, want to go to Russia

So colluding with Russia is baaaaad but traveling there and contributing to their economy is perfectly fine.
Their trip got cancelled due to Covid, which I also find ironic, and they’re sad. I mentioned that I would never be caught dead traveling to (or anywhere around) Russia and they thought that was just so small-minded and ridiculous

Depends on where and time of year. I've been to Moscow and St Petersburg both in the summer and they were quite nice.
Your in-laws are morons for believing in the russian collusion nonsense, but I don't see any hypocrisy unless they were planning on staying with former Kremlin officials.
It's the largest country on earth, there's a lot of interesting stuff there completely unrelated to geopolitics. I've been to China, too, despite hating the CCP.

Back in the day (years ago) there were only two places I wanted to go before I die; Holy Land and Moscow. I don't care to do either anymore because air travel has gotten to be so onerous (even before covid). Something about the history of Russia and Moscow in particular intrigued me.

If you ever watch videos on youtube from guys like "Bald and Bankrupt" you'll see that the common people there seem to be pretty freaking nice and hospitable.
I hate communism as much if not more than the next guy, but buying into the bullshite that our government / corporate overlords try to sell us that the Russian people hate Americans etc is silly.
Would be willing to bet that barring language barriers we have a heck of a lot more in common with the average Russian baw than any of our scum sucking political class here.

The ones that a travel agent would recommend ahead of it when you asked for a good international travel spot? Russia will not be in the top 10.
Russians.. for the most part… is just a bunch of baws like rural Americans that just salute another flag.. but Russia is just not a touristy location. Outside of the allure of being in a former place no American was safe and to see Moscow, the former red square, etc…. Why?
Just go to Pennsylvania, western New York, New Hampshire.. Same thing.

And not wanting a president colluding with a foreign country is completely different then visiting a country on vacation. I would want to throw Biden under the jail if he colluded with Italy or Ireland, but I would still like to visit.

St. Petersburg and Moscow are both historical cultural centers of Russian history with plenty of allure for people into that sort of thing. Russia's geography also provides resort cities for skiing and on the Black sea.

The people are awesome, if not a bit bushwhacked and afraid of what their government will do to them if they get out of line.
