Caught season 2 ep 1 last night.. It was very disturbing and I liked it. Haven't watched season 1 but I will.
Question... Does Sweeney unleash those magnificent sweater puppies in season 1? Just want to know going in..

Yea, but this is next level shite. Almost like it was designed to poison the minds of young people watching

I don't disagree that it handles very heavy subject matter. I would imagine the main target audience are college aged kids and younger adults (24-40). But I wouldn't be surprised to find 17-20 year olds acting like that all over America in real life, especially in larger cities. Sad but true. HBO definitely pushes the boundaries though. I think it is more to showcase how fricked up the youth years are for kids growing up in the tech era, and about sobriety and a bunch of other stuff.

As for episode 2: So Fez and Lexi and Nate's pervert crazy dad trying to go after Fez? Good luck Old Man Perve.

ETA: I get the feeling that the creepy internet guy from season 1 is going to be a factor again. That was some for real bad news shite she was doing.

yeah i can see how could glorify all the bad behavior to a 15 year old viewer. as an adult (who dabbled in drugs as an adolescent and younger adult) viewer, it doesn't glorify anything to me.

i like that this season is moving away from jules a bit. idk if it's the subject matter or the actor but i just hate that character.

I think that is mainly who the show is watched by. But I agree, I wouldn't let my teenagers (if I had kids) watch it. But it does the opposite of glorifying to me. If anything it shows the bad sides of drug use, at least the Fez storyline.

I too am glad they moved away from Jules. Fez, Rue, Lexi, and Sweeney's story lines are the better ones. I never was a fan of Maddie or whatever her name is, she has always annoyed me.

ETA: I think the Maddie actress is like 30.

I just looked up Alexa Demie (Maddy) and you’re right

S2E2 was pretty good. Glad they are featuring Lexie more. And the Fez storyline is going to be good. I had to go back and read about last season- still don’t think we know what’s on the DVD? I assume it’s Cal hooking up with someone (underage).

Underrated character is BB - they should feature her more. “Remember when I got pregnant?”

Several times. I can’t remember if any of the other major characters get nekkid.

Unrelated but I was at a friend’s house the other night and put on S2E1. They were hooked but kept asking me how I knew backstories.. when I told them it was S2 they chewed me out for a full 5 mins Now they’re doing a binge of S1

Spoilers?

It's the dad fricking Jules. It happens early on in S1.

Regarding the OP, this is definitely not "normal" high school but to all the people acting like it's crazy are wrong too. We were having sex and doing weed, coke, acid, and lots of pills in HS. And we had cliques for sure. That was 25 years ago. I don't think it's completely unreasonable for high schoolers today doing lots of drugs and sex mixed in with the whole tranny crap. Yes, all these stories at one school is crazy but it's a TV show.

The movies you mention have absolutely nothing in common with euphoria.

this is how i feel but i was in high school more recently than 25 years ago.

in a vacuum (excluding the blackmail stuff and maybe fezco getting away with beating the shite out of nate jacobs) none of this stuff is really outlandish. i knew underclassmen in high school were were going pretty hard with drugs on a near daily basis. lots of sex. seemingly decent parents letting their troubled kids do whatever they want without supervision. parents letting kids have parties at their huge, beautiful homes.

the tranny element wasn't there yet when i was in school, but i've heard it's there now... and this is upper middle class suburban high school in the south.

I'm on S1 episode 7.. Loving it. But to all the other comments about how bad the show is, I wouldn't want my high-schooler watching this shite

Drinking, substances, and nudity? This show is more nuanced, and has more of a "dark real world plot" than the films I mentioned.

Despite what people think, there are kids/teens basically raising themselves out there, doing all kinds of dumb shite like this with drugs, drinking, partying, NA/AA, etc. Hell, there are teenagers coming from good families doing the same shite. All over the place, even in La. Add in the trans stuff and the internet/social media factor and it makes it a more "current plot". But movies like I mentioned paved the way for shows like these.

It isn't my favorite show but it is somewhat entertaining. I think I read a long time ago when Season 1 came out that it was based off of another show from overseas (maybe somewhere in the Middle East). I'd have to go back and look it up.

I'm finally caught up. Man I'm loving these plots.

-Will Cal kill Fezco or will Fez ultimately have to kill Cal?

- Will Nate and Cassie keep seeing each other in secret?

- Will Nate and Maddy get back together?

- Will Ali and Rue's mom start getting down?

- What's up with homegirl's lips? Bruh....

- What does Cal do now that he knows Nate knows about the DVD?

Honestly the only thing I don't like about the show is that Rue is the centerpiece and narrator.

I actually like the show. I think I do anyway...it's pretty messed up from start to finish.

However...

it's really just a disgusting look at the worst of society, through the eyes of perverted adults, but transferring those thoughts onto "high school children".

It's hard to debate this

i think lexi would have been a good narrator as the straight (wo)man in the show.

My little nephews came over with their girlfriends and we're talking about a watch party. They're all 16-17 and I said "What the frick are y'all watching this for? This shite is made for college kids"

The scene with Cal/Fezco made me think that Cal isn't as upset as he seems about Nate getting his arse beat. They kind of suggested that Cal thought he deserved it.. at least that was my take.
