What are the best school districts in Austin, TX?

I have heard great things about the Eanes school district, but the home prices in that district are out of reach for us. Leander ISD seems a bit too far. I understand Austin ISD and the schools on the east side aren't great.

Is Round Rock a good option if I am commuting 3 days a week to downtown Austin? How long does that drive take? Wife generally prefers newer subdivisions perferably with good neighbood amenities - parks, pools, basketball/tennis courts etc.

TIA for any tips folks (especially parents) that live in Austin and know the area can provide.

Friend of mine works for Eanes and endorses it. From what I’ve gathered through conversations I’d stay away from Leander. Dripping Springs and Lake Travis are good options too but the commute might suck.
ETA: I see Leander is rated #2 behind Eanes, it might just be that certain areas of the district aren’t great.

Round Rock is fine. Vandergrift, Cedar Park, Hutto, Lake Travis, basically any suburban school is a college compared to Louisiana public schools. The inner city public schools get a bad rap here, but are pristine compared to La.

Bowie High in south Austin is a great school as well. If you don’t mind a commute. My pick would be San Marcos, New Braunfells.

I live in Liberty Hill (great school district and high school sports) and drive downtown once a week. Takes me about 30 min going to work when I leave around 6:50am. Coming home is about 15 min longer.

That is Eanes ISD.

Hays CISD (Kyle/Buda) isn't too bad. Avoid Del Valle ISD.

How much money you planning for a house?

Northwest Hills is Austin ISD and good schools but you'll need a million.

Commuting to DT is going to suck from anywhere.
I've had 0 complaints about leander isd. Newer schools. Highly rated.
I'd def pick living in cedar park or georgetown over Round Rock.

Stay in buda don’t go all the way to Kyle. Kyle is low key ghetto and rough. Kyle - Del Valle - Lockhart triiangle. Unless your kid is a little gang banger mexican

That place is gonna be a crazy mix of gentrification in schools in about ten years. All the transients keep coming and will push the trailer park Mexicans out to god only knows where.

But I think the right now that isn’t where I would want to send my kid

Be careful north. The saying, “Come to Williamson County on vacation, and leave on probation!” is real.

For rush hour you should prepare for an hour commute to Round Rock I would think. My advice to you if you are dead set on living in burbs, and you value your life, would be to pick the ones off of Mopac like Cedar Park. If Google says best route is I-35 to downtown, cross it off the list.

I’ve lived here for 7 years and it kind of feels like not getting on I-35 is some kind of cheat code.

The simple rule is live on the same side of the river that you work on.
