Friend of mine who hunts around Natchez had a deer on camera for two weeks. Nobody has seen that deer before. Their rut is going on now. Well last Sunday when the front came in my buddy left for the camp. Everyone else where in blinds when he got there around 3pm. He decided to just sit in the area that deer was moving. He walks from the camp, leaves the road and stands on a bluff. Looks down and that buck is standing broadside below at 30 yards. Dropped right there. Was back at the camp by 3:30. That luck will never happen to him again. Here’s the deer

I don't remember Louisiana and Natchez area (the La part of Miss) deer being so big when I was a kid. I guess all the conservation and cameras and what not have helped them grow. Thats a nice one.

Heck, one could argue the Natchez area has declined as it is hunted very hard now. Some bruiser deer can be found north and south of Natchez, especially along the river.

Natchez area has always had big deer and probably has declined due to hunting pressure from “down south”

Always have been some big ones coming out of Anna’s Bottom. My buddy stuck a big one in there 20 years ago.

From where I’m sitting in the hills just east of Rodney, the hunting is running neck and neck with the Homochitto NF. It’s BAD and has been for about 8-10 years now.

The first rule about deer hunting is, every rule can and will be broken.

Sometimes you can sneak in quietly to a stand an hour before dark, in a well used travel area with good sign during the rut with the wind to your advantage and see NOTHING.

And sometimes you just trip over a good buck that’s having an off day and he makes mistakes that he won’t live to regret.

Maybe I am just lumping in Natchez with some big CenLa bucks I have seen people taking pictures with recently. Either way, some of the more local ones seem a lot larger than the pictures I'd see as a kid on the wall at the gun store where everyone would put pics up on the wall.

Great buck. Sounds like the hunter put himself where the buck was.
Natchez area is legendary for quality bucks. Plantation pines replacing soy bean fields has hurt the area.

My goodness. I can't wait to get on a lease or something. As an adult I've always hunted as guest at family member's leases and could only shoot does and as a kid when we were on a lease never saw anything but does. Those are monsters.

Be prepared to open that checkbook and maybe even savings account to get a good river lease.

Oh I wasn't talking about a natchez or river lease per se. I just meant in general. Depends on where I end up after this semester. It is sort of bad that I am basing that location on duck and deer hunting.

One of the biggest 10s at our club was killed like that. Guy showed up to camp later than he anticipated for the afternoon hunt. Realized everyone was on stand and he didn’t want to ruin their hunts, so he took a stroll behind the camp and killed the deer 200 yards away from our back door.
