Once these big money boosters realize they are getting played by not only the kids but the schools as well, this overflow of $$$ will stop.

not if they continue winning championships... you think Bama boosters care about a player staying after they win a championship? frick no... they go get the next 5 star guy to replace the 5 star guy they lost, and they keep on rolling...

i understand the desire to "do it the right way", but them days is gone bro... just like anything else, you either adapt or die

The NCAA, or the conferences, will come up with rules curtailing it.

I'm not sure how they will much considering the legal impediments to them taking any action other than limiting the schools involvement.

The NCAA has already stated that any NIL agreement that requires a student to attend a certain school or has any restrictions regarding playing time or position are against the rules.

They have also specified that the payment should be a fair market value for the service, though I am unclear how they would quantify that.

What has to happen now is the NCAA and/or the conferences need to get serious about enforcing adherence to the guidelines as much as possible. But even that is an uphill battle.

I think a lot of people understand the “adapt or die” bit, but realize there is a third option: they are going to just become disinterested. And that is why they are saying it’s ruining college football, because it is ruining it for them.

This. I don’t care much about nfl and have no interest in college becoming nfl light. It will actually be worse than the nfl because no contracts for players will make it chaos with transfers .

I was thinking about the max deal also. Make it like a salary cap. 1st year at XYZ program, max at xx. 2nd year at that program max rises. If player transfers he/she becomes first year player at that program. And transfers have a built in buyout clause like coaches. Someone will always find loopholes in everything but at least make it a challenge to do so.

We went from allowing athletes to sign autographs for $20....to negotiating an annual 6 figure salaries and 7 figure deals....overnight.

Recruiting has changed immensely.

Certain schools are gonna use NIL for recruiting, but I think the smarter play is using it to retain players. Get good quality guys in and develop them. A 21 yr old LB is better than an 18 yr old one most of the time. Focus on juniors and seniors if I’m LSU and keeping them.

The rich will get richer. The NCAA needs to adjust their thinking about roster management. I'm assuming it will be ironed out. Having only 50 scholarship players for a bowl is crazy

Strangely, one way to level the playing field could be to REDUCE the number of scholarships available. It will spread the talent around, just like you see in the NFL and in college basketball. In basketball there are many good players out there, but Duke, UNC, Kansas, etc can only have 13 on scholarship. That means some big time talent can go elsewhere.

Right now A&M is paying a ton (and they are blatantly telling you the are). But with an 85 player roster they can afford to stash guys away. Cut that down to 65 or so and you’ll have 20 guys who have to go elsewhere

I see a potential problem with the way NIL might be going in resentment of the have-nots towards the haves. Potential impact to team morale and function. Some consideration should be given to a team oriented Name, Image, and Likeness ad revenues where everyone shares the proceeds.
