PLAQUEMINES PARISH - A man was arrested Sunday for allegedly harassing duck hunters on public property, according to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. Department agents arrested Brendan Nolan, 32, after receiving a complaint from hunters on public land in Venice. The complaint came with a video showing Nolan maneuvering his boat into a duck decoy spread belonging to the hunters. The department reports Nolan also shouted at the hunters and shot their decoys with a pistol.

shite like this is why I stopped hunting ducks. Last few years I put in a lot of work building duck blinds on public land just to have other hunters beat me to it in the morning. Got into plenty arguments over hunting spots. It’s not worth it. Then you come across a piece of trash like that and possibly could lose your life OVER a duck. SMH I hope they make an example out of him just my personal opinion

You are right. People are crazy. I know people who will sleep in their car so they can be first at the boat launch........

Many of us know at least one of the three kids in that blinds parents.

Was on the plaquemines parish school board land which is treated as open, despite the parish requirement for permits.

If you build a blind on public land, you can expect someone to hunt it - The guy/guide has 4-5 blinds/spots that he rotates. The video is out there, look for plaquemines parish to change their rules a bit going forward - or at least they should.

And many of us know the "guide"

Those kids had every right to be there.

In fact at least 10 people have posted on here that they have fished with said guide.

Guide for fishvenicecharters. Absolutely SHOCKED that a guide would think public property belongs to him.

19, and two 18s

Heck the dad of one posts here and pretty sure the "guide" does too....

what is also going on down there is every bit of unleased private land is getting gobbled up by leases, which is causing headaches for the hunters getting the leases and the former squatters claiming they are hunting "public" land.

Being that it is one of the few places with ducks in LA right now it will only get worse down there.

A friend on mine showed me a video from their lease near ft jackson last week it sounded like the indy 500 the whole hunt. He said from predawn until 11 all you could hear was mud boats roaming. Soon the ducks down there too will figure it out.

I look for plaquemines parish to do like 85% of other parishes and lease out their "section 16 lands" it won't be long before someone gets shot like that.

That is nothing new in the 80s nefarious folks down there would slash tires at the launch and such.

THis happened several times last year and the year before and it has happened this year. Including chainsawing down a blind whilst it was being hunted.

I heard of a A couple of guys from Alabama loaded their stuff up and proceeded to follow one guy a few miles back to his other blind(that he was actually hunting that day and proceed to set up 100 yards up wind and "hunt". Maybe the feds and state are on to something with no guides on their land.

anyone that was down below venice in 70s and 80s should not be at all surprised by this.

A guide I used to know in Port Oconnor made a simple little steel frame with barbed wire that he could lock down over the bench seat. Anyone that went into that blind had to sit on the barbed wire or cover it up very well or they would get holes in their waders.

When he hunted it he just unlocked and removed it and sat it down behind the blind.

Pretty damn effective.

I used to run with a bunch that would go to "Their Hole" in the timber at 2 am to make sure they got it, it would be freezing and we would sit out there for 4 hours waiting on daylight.

Never failed that right before legal shooting 2-3 boats would come driving in from different directions

I stopped going

I’m not shocked some Guides down there think they own everything on public land!

Another reason to hunt public land that doesn't allow permanent blinds to be built.

That’s the way it was back in the 90s, problem was it was all leased by about three people (lourvie, Hoskins, Davis) oil field money and no one else was gonna get it.

Air boats as well, it's amazing how much this has increased in the last 10 years or more. Makes quite a racket pre dawn and throughout the morning. I no longer duck hunt but have noticed plenty of ducks hanging out in East Bay during the morning and open water elsewhere.
