Mandeville parking lot knock out video - Follow Up article and PTSD claim

The viral video of the Roided up Army Captain punching out the old man was previously discussed on here. The guy has now done an interview with The Advocate and they gave him some very favorable coverage. What says the OT? Is this guys story legit or is he gaming the system to try and get out of the charges?*
LINK to WWL article with original video
*He claims to have been seeking in-patient treatment prior to the incident. If he can show evidence of that, I would think that greatly helps his case. If he can't and is caught in a lie, I would say that makes it worse than before.
LINK
*There was a whole bunch of relevant info in the OP originally but the Admins seem to be drinking their North Korea censorship juice this morning and they came in my post and cut a bunch of shite out. That's a first. Used to be you just chose not to read something if it was too long. I guess they are paying the internet bill by the word these days.

For months, Richard Suarez says he had been battling post-traumatic stress disorder that began during a nine-month combat deployment in northern Iraq and continued after he returned to Mandeville in October, where his wife and four children noticed a troubling change in the Louisiana National Guard captain.
But when Suarez woke up on Dec. 13, there was a terrifying change. "A threshold had been crossed," Suarez, who is now a patient at a mental health facility, said. "My heart was beating out of my chest, I was sweating, my hands were shaking... I just broke down, like uncontrollable weeping." But the panic attack was not the worst of what was to come that day.
Suarez said he decided to talk about what happened partly for the sake of his family, who've been subjected to a social media backlash and threats. "There's just more to this story than was being told — if not for me, for the next veteran...the 22 that commit suicide per day, I understand that now. I didn't understand before, but I do now."

This was obvious to myself and a couple of other buddies- all of us deployed to OEF/OIF - and recognize the “wall”…Suarez snapped and sadly an old fella suffered and so has Suarez and his family.
PTS is real, especially if TBI involved and the VA is undermanned and often times just lacking in getting vets MH support they need in a crisis.

He also snapped before he ever left for deployment

I’m not a mindreader nor have any clue about who Suarez is as a person, other than media sources.
Unless you know the guy intimately and personally, I assume you don’t either.
Him experiencing MH challenges from deployment AND being an unsavory person can both be true and not be mutually exclusive:

Several people chimed in the original thread claiming to know the guy from way back and none of them had anything good to say about him. Quite the opposite in fact.

So he joins the military and when he gets out he expects to be able to attack women and seniors because VA did not give him an in person appt?
When I and others got back years ago we didn't need an excuse not to try to kill people in a parking lot.
A soldier would stand up and take responsibility for what he did.

As he and his wife, Morgan, prepared to leave for the VA Hospital in New Orleans in hopes he would be admitted, they stopped at a busy, crowded Mandeville shopping center where his wife wanted to drop off a Christmas package at a UPS store.
So he had his bags packed headed to a mental hospital and made one last stop where this happened ?

I appreciate that and also understand that often a tiger doesn’t change stripes easily, however, this issue is a microcosm of alot of discussions on TD that are often heavy on unsupported opinions / biases and are subjective versus being viewed in the totality of facts and objectivity.
Example:
Johnny always speeds. Speeding is illegal. Johnny hits another car while speeding on Saturday. Based on Johnny’s past he’s a habitual speeder and already ruled guilty by public opinion. Except on Saturday, Johnny was speeding to get his hurt child to ER. Example of current facts matter for extenuating circumstances in addition to past behavior.

Let’s say he was having a PTSD panic attack. He still hurt someone. All the PTSD means is that he needs help, not that he shouldn’t be prosecuted.

I agree…both can be true…see my above posts.
Just trying to be a voice of reason in an environment that hangs first and judges facts later.

His wife came out of the store and found him parked some distance way, shaking.
Wait…after he punched the guy, he got into the passenger seat and the minivan drives off. She wasn’t in the fricking store.

Eh. This isn’t exactly journalism. If it were journalism we would see her trying to verify the story by talking to people in his unit, or people he grew up with, all of whom would say this guy is a lifelong POS who has always acted like this. Not this pseudo- advertisement crap staged by his lawyer, who apparently thinks this is somehow beneficial to her case.
I think this guy is full of shite. We need to hear from his unit. This is the kind of idiocy we see from people who were never really in the shite and have a chip on their shoulder about it. Several guys from my platoon have killed themselves. It’s not a big production. It’s a slow, quiet burn that usually happens years after you get back to the world. Most of the time, you don’t see it coming. The signs are subtle. This pussy has been home like a month and is acting out in public, threatening geriatrics, and allegedly this is all consistent with his prior behavior.
Also, “honey I’m in suicidal crisis I need to go to the VA NOW!”
“Ok sure, just let me mail some Christmas packages first.” ?
How hard do you think his wife secretly prays he goes to jail? You know she has prob taken a beating.
Also, WTF is even happening in Iraq right now?

EXAMPLE OF FACTS MATTER
What video do you have access to that disproves Suarez’ account? No such video exists because it didn’t happen.
Point # 2368 to not assume, review the facts and not serve judgement until then.
