The bigger concern is the pulled hamstring or high ankle sprain that hurts draft pre or and affects the combine.

why don’t they give them injury insurance instead?

Any player that comes back gets this. Some players going into their junior year gets these. From my understanding it is really tough to collect from the insurance companies because you have to prove future income and that’s not always the easiest thing to do.

Willis McGahee’s injury was also in the national championship game against Ohio state

More than zero.

I get it, I want to see the tigers at full force too but if a team isn't in the playoff then a bowl game is a glorified scrimmage and not worth the risk.

The Miami running back, also Jalen Smith of ND.

Willis McGahee. He still had a good NFL career but it cost him draft money.

It also occurred in the National Championship game as opposed to an obscure game between a .500 team and a barely above .500 team. No one "opted out" in LSU's 2019 run.

Even if the risk is statistically low, the assessment still comes down to a risk v. reward evaluation. If you are playing in the NC game or playoffs I would guess most players would say the potential reward outweighs the risk. As for the other bowl games I doubt the players see the "reward" of winning one outweighing the risk of serious injury...even if risk of the latter is very small.

Let them opt out. This game means nothing. Let the young guys get some snaps.

My biggest thing is this: If being healthy enough for the NFL is the end all be all, then wouldn't a regular bowl game be just as meaningless as the college football playoff? We have to stop the pandering. There's no accountability outside of "if you don't side with the players, you're a scumbag"

They literally put out a public statement saying they wanted to talk to Collins in relation to the murder of his ex and that he wasn't a person of interest right before the draft. Like less than a week, if I recall correctly.

It almost seemed vindictive on their part. Cost him early money but once he fell so far down the UDFA situation really helped him. One less year of rookie money.

I wouldn't put TDP in the same convo as Clark or Farrell

I firmly believe Goodell told NFL teams not to draft him. That’s the only explanation for a team in the 6th or 7th round not scooping up a first round talent for super cheap.

Upside gain for participating in menial bowl game versus risk of downside of not realizing the forever life changing money that is in front of some of these players…

Is what the mega money that flows through NFL has done to college football.

That running back from Miami is the one that really pops for me.

And that's the only one I can think of. He did rehab and make it to the NFL.

He put out a statement that he would sit out if he was drafted lower than a certain round, 3rd I think. At that point the UDFA route was better for him long term with respect to long term money and team selection.

You would really need to dig deeper and find out how many players had major injuries in a bowl game. Anything that requires surgery is what I would try to base this off. Career ending isn’t the only thing that could go wrong.

There are specialty insurance companies that provide that type of insurance and Allstate isn’t one of them. They’d need to set up an entirely different underwriting and actuarial models. If I understand the Allstate offer, it’s to give money to the General Scholarship Fund at the respective University.
