Is a goose as good or better than turkey? Or worse?

I'm talking about for the dinner table, of course.
Any good goose recipes out there?

Never cooked it and have eaten it once. Goose meat was darker, richer and probably more flavorful.

much better than turkey
basically all dark meat, rich and flavorful
be advised, roasting a goose produces an amount of rendered fat that you haven’t seen before. Roast it on a rack over a deep pan and drain it once or twice (save for cooking potatoes)

It’s much worse than turkey and it’s not close.
I had one cooked for a Christmas. It was cooked properly. Dry. Barely any meat when compared to a turkey. Movies have romanticized it.
A brined and roasted turkey is tough to beat
Edit to say we aren’t taking about speckle bellied goose breast but whatever goose one can buy at a grocery store around this time of year.

Not really. It's good when done well, but I imagine "roasted turkey" would be on very few "last meal" lists.

What if the only choices are turkey or goose?

I also imagine not many have had a perfectly cooked turkey either. It’s pretty damn great when brined, seasoned, and roasted.
And we’re comparing turkey and goose here so yeah, if given the choice of the two the vast majority would pick turkey.

I second the caution about goose fat... you will get a huge volume of fat. The fattiness makes it unlikely to dry the meat. Handling all that melted fat and cleanup are major efforts...expect a very greasy kitchen.
Per pound of raw bird, turkey yields much more cooked meat for serving.

I smoked one a few years ago. That was my first and last goose. It somehow managed to be dry and greasy at the same time. The meat was tough and had a strange taste I wasn't into. It had the added plus of being super expensive.
I guess it's possible I didn't cook it long enough. I know I brought it higher than 165 to render the fat. 180 or something. If you're going to do it I would recommend having some gravy or sauce on hand for sure.
To each his own but turkey is far superior IMO.

Just saw a whole goose at WF BR frozen. $90.00! Hollee crap. Guess I’ll never get to find out.

This. Everyone saying that goose is better than turkey have never eaten goose. It’s not.

I beg to differ. For several years I used to order a goose for X-mas. Fantastic eating. My guess is those folks saying goose is terrible don't know how to cook.

Again what kind of goose? A smoked speckled belly “ribeye in the sky” breast sliced thin, is as good as filet mignon , most other wild geese (blues, snows, Canada’s , Ross, eagle eye, ) ain’t worth a shite unless you make bombs with them, I have never messed with a domestic goose and from the replies in this thread I won’t

I've only had goose once, and only a bite, but that perfectly describes what I had. I like turkey but that goose would beat turkey for me any day.
