"Following a consultation and further evaluation with Dr. Richard Ferkel of the Southern California Orthopedic Institute yesterday, Zion Williamson received a biologic injection into the fracture site to stimulate bone healing in his right foot.
Williamson will be limited to low impact, partial weight-bearing activities for an extended period. Further updates will be given following further imaging which is anticipated to occur in 4-6 weeks."

Just amputate the damn foot

That would put a timeline in place for a mid-to-late February debut on the court this season, if everything goes right.

He's not playing this season, and I'm starting to get late-career Bill Walton vibes. Might never be the same.

Honestly, this is not a bad update. The fact that it isn't another surgery is good news, in my opinion.

welp, there goes my initial guess of a january 11th debut.

I think you’re right about the Bill Walton comparison to an extent. It’s pretty obviously a stress fracture which is what ended Walton’s career. Luckily we have better care for such things now, a la Jrue when he got to NOLA, and it still took him like 2 years to fully recover.

This franchise is cursed

I find it interesting he is going to California for his treatments and diagnosis, quite the indictment of our Ochsner network here(not that I blame him, they seem to be questionable at best).

Why? Players go to specialists around the country all the time

It would even register if it weren't for the other reporting on Zion/CAA and his camp being uncomfortable with our medical staff.
...Or that Oschner and our sports medical network has some pretty big warts on their resume.
The bigger story though is it seems pretty clear if he comes back, it will simply be for token playtime. 4 weeks puts him in mid January, then you likely have a minimum of several more weeks of ramping back up. So a perfect scenario, which we know wont happen, pins him at March before returning.

Just Google Richard Ferkel, he's worked on numerous NBA players all over the league. He did Steph's ankles, Embiid's foot, Boogie's knee, Klay's achilles. It's basically like a football players getting a surgery done by James Andrews.

Fair enough, still, the whole reason we brought in Nelson was so we would be a premiere team from a health perspective, and Zion has basically shunned them. Right or wrong.

Just in time for Season Ticket Renewals.

To get specialist opinion and care is normal in situations like this. I would be disappointed in the care of Zion if he didn't go to the "best" in the country.
At some point assuming that the healing is not progressing, hard decisions will need to be made. I would hope that if a second surgery is deemed to be needed, it would be scheduled early enough so that he could be ready by summer work outs!
Hopefully, these injections will indeed help the healing and a second surgery will not be needed.

Yeah it's better than needing to do a surgery now but it's also a last ditch effort to have any chance of playing this season. If a surgery is elected now then he's done until next season. If surgery is done in February/March it's the same result, done until next season. This is something of a "hail mary" or "3/4 shot heave" and worth at least trying with no downside.

I have a feeling Zion and his camp aren't too fond of Nelson after the whole burst minutes saga

Well if we learned anything about Zion and his family is that they no very little about fitness, health, and injury prevention.
