First thing I thought of was Inglorious Basterds, both the opener and the bar scene.

But I’ll also mention Gunpowder Ep. 1 on HBO.
It’s a search for a catholic priest by one of the king’s men in Stuart England (1605 Gunpowder Plot).

Basement scene in Zodiac where Graysmith thinks the creepy poster guy is the killer and thinks he sees boards move from someone stepping on them upstairs.

Lots of parts of Blackhawk Down.
I have never been able to finish that movie. It is just too intense and real. I don't know what it is. I've watched much more graphic scenes and in my mind, "those are just movies", but watching Blackhawk Down, at least to me, I feel the angst, tension terror and pain, and can't continue watching.

Eric bana was a friggin bad arse in that movie.

Thought it did a great job of walking the tight rope of showing and respecting the courage of those guys while also conveying the sentiment of why the hell are we as Americans putting up with this shite of playing world police

I came on to say the scene in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, at the Manson compound. But someone finally mentioned on page 6.
I just wanted to add that Pitt’s whole walk through the compound, then all the way to the back room to see Bruce Dern’s character was total anxiety to me. You just felt like something really bad was about to happen to Pitt’s character

I saw it in the theater and after the movie it was nearly silent.

I agree about the feeling of reality. Not sure I could watch it again.

Came here to say this. Inglorious Bastards opening scene is a good one too, though. And it didn’t initially come to mind.

I only saw it for the first time about a year ago, and now it’s my favorite movie.

Opening to Inglorious Basterds which has been said already but I’d also like to throw in the oscillating fan scene in Paranormal Activity 3.

Hitchcock is my favorite director of all time and those are two of my favorite movies. Both of those are incredible scenes, but probably the most tense movie of his to me is Dial M for Murder. That is like an entire movie of tense scenes.
