They were recalled for going off without pulling the trigger, have killed hundreds already and very few people responded to the recall so they will say it’s your fault.

Yes on Timney
I won’t try to adjust an adjustable factory trigger.
Call brownells and order what you need. I like 2&1/2 pound trigger for hunting. Great triggers reasonable price.

Gun owners are a group like no others,” the court-appointed mediator Glenn Norton, a judge from Missouri, testified during a 2016 settlement hearing. “A large percentage of these folks, as I know from personal experience, wouldn’t turn their rifles in if we knocked on their door and told them what the allegations are in this case because, frankly, they’re suspicious … they feel like someone’s trying to take their guns away.”

That kids story is about the most bullshite I've ever read, he got and loaded the gun to threaten his brother. But it accidentally went off as it was pointing at his head.

Then he tried to stage a suicide and changed his story again?

This kid killed his brother.

quote:

Zac pulled his rifle off its rack and loaded the gun — a mimed threat, he said, not a serious one.

In a million years why would you take and load a high powered rifle over a fight with your little brother.........

Let's cede them part of their argument, that the gun went off.

HE took a high powered rifle from its storage place and loaded it because of a fight with his 11 year old brother.

HE had the loaded weapon pointing at his brothers head "when it went off"

But he was cognizant enough to stage a suicide that involved loading and firing other weapons.....

There is nothing wrong with the trigger on older model 700s. The problem only arises when idiots adjust it without knowing what the hell they're doing.

Here's a video that explains what causes the negligent discharge.

Story is 3 years old.

If you cant contact the manufacturer that has an open recall on the rifles than it is your fault.

These are the type of people you have writing gun articles..........

This is the crux of this issue with this one. But as some other posters have noted in that other thread. Apparently 700's have an issue where if you touch the safety switch in a certain way it will fire. I honestly don't know. But having a deer rifle loaded anywhere but the deer stand or the range isn't smart.

It is such a thing. I've seen it happen when we were sighting in rifles one year, gun was in the sled and flipped the safety off, boom. It happened again in a stand, gun out the window about to take a shot, flip safety off, boom again. This was a factory gun that had never been fooled with

This was the mode of failure, either the safety being moved to fire or strong downward pressure on the safety switch.

So that being said did the kid have the loaded rifle pointed at his brothers head when he clicked the safety off?

One would think anyone in this situation would tell the truth and say they were playing with the gun when it went off, he probably would have walked.

But this isn't what happened at all, they got into a fight, he retrieved and loaded the rifle, and however it happened it was pointed directly at his brothers head whe it discharged.

At that point he staged a suicide with another weapon, the shotgun, and fabricated an entirely different story.

THIS IS NOT REMINGTONS FAULT.

Even if the gun just did "go off" he received the appropriate charge of manslaughter based on the actions prior.

had this happen to me in stand. did a "practice run" at an ant pile on the far end of the field, clicked the safety and the thing went off. one of the scariest things ever happened to me hunting. put a timney trigger in it and havent had any issues

I don't want to put words into the OPs mouth but it sounds to me like he's just trying to remind folks about the existing issue, not highlight a specific story.

yep. always check the safety first before you point rifles at your younger brothers' head.

His dad is probably one of those people that sit in their recliner and says someone on the news needs to be shot, and he'd volunteer to do it. Be careful about what you say in front of kids.

It's not a thing in a clean, properly adjusted, not worn out or broken trigger. The trigger is still produced for and used by the U.S. military.

If you want to upgrade skip the timney and go with a shilen, jewell, or geisselle trigger. The damn original walker is a more crisp and clean trigger than the timney.

Why would you post a link to an anti-gun organization? I didn’t read the article because the first thing I saw was a pop up asking me to contribute money to journalists to shine a light on gun violence. But I am sure it is a fair and balanced article with no bias. WTF is wrong with you?

How can one tell if it was repaired from the manufacture?

the gun will not kill anyone if it is unloaded and or on safety. I know for a fact the way i was taught to shoot a rifle was to never take it off safety until you are ready to shoot your intended target. I own a Remington 700 that i bought 8 years ago and it is one of the best shooting rifles i've ever had.
