I thjnk There is a perception that he underachieved. He defenses are very good but not elite.
Alabama had had a top 10 Defense pretty much since 2009 at least.

Golding was recruiting in Louisiana yesterday for Alabama. If Saban thought this was a possibility, I doubt he would be on the road.

His defense might not be elite but his defensive scheming combined with recruiting abilities make him one of the best options.
