Load is easily Metallica’s most adventurous, diverse, and dynamic album, in my view. It’s still a great listen, all these years later. I wish the band had the guts to follow through on what they tapped into during the Load era rather than “selling-out” for real by buckling to fan pressure and “rediscovering their roots” with Death Magnetic and Hardwired, which sound forced to these ears.
Bob Rock got more out of Metallica than Fleming Rasmussen or Rick Rubin ever did.

I agree with Roman. It's Ride the Lightning

Master of Puppets......Justice.... and Lightning are all acceptable answers.

I personally like Kill em All

My vote goes to And Justice For Jason

quote:Solid troll job, but I will support you and say it's not all that trolly. It's obviously popular to shite on Load (see what I did there?) but the truth is, it's spectacular. It runs the gamut from old school Metallica epic (Bleeding Me) to country-influenced James ballad (Mama Said).
Load was Metallica's best album.
In retrospect, I might drop Ain't My Bitch and Cure, but they are still OK.
Ronnie is my favorite and a top 5 for sure.
Thorn Within has another classic James solo.
Until it Sleeps is their best single outside of One.

Kill em all, Ride the Lightning, and Masters.
The holy trinity next to the Cult's Love, Electric, Sonic Temple.

Load was my first Metallica CD and Until it Sleeps was the reason I got it. A lot of muh first 4 albums fans don't seem to realize how many fans were introduced to Metallica by the Loads and Garage Inc, then worked backwards to discover their 80s stuff. From that I discovered the other thrash bands and metal in general
The reason I bought my first guitar and starting learning to read tab was the solo from The Outlaw Torn. That whole middle section leading up to the solo and James' vocals "and if my face becomes sincere...BEWARE" still gives me chills. I don't know how somebody can like Jump in the Fire more than that monster

Yeah, he's amazing. If someone had taken the 18 year old Hetfield and told you just 14 short years later he would be crafting songs of that variety, you probably wouldn't have believed it.

if they had taken the best songs from Load and Reload and made THAT the album, they would have had a killer album

One of my first metal tapes I got in the late 80's. Had "Am I Evil" as the bonus track. I kept that one cassette for close to 30 years until it finally disappeared.

I wonder how Reload would have been received had Metallica named it anything else.
“Reload” comes with the notion that those songs were leftovers or second best.
