There is so much more to say about Issue 1 here in Ohio but you summarized it well enough.

Ohio has been a solidly red state for a long time. This baffles me. Columbus is the only blue city in that state, and even a good chunk of the population in that city is solidly red

No, that’s not what it shows. It shows that demorats are baby killers and racists. Statistically, the African American population would be 20% today without Roe. It’s 13%. Most abortions are by African Americans in inner cities.

I have heard from country club republicans, who voted no, who think it’s alright to abort African Americans because they only perpetuate fatherless homes, welfare, drugs, and crime. Unbelievable.

I’m conservative. I believe generational poverty and the associated problems can be solved. It will take hard work, tough choices, and perseverance. But it can be done.

Republicans are not the answer. Every former Ohio governor supported NO on issue 1. DeWine, along with Howdy Doody Husted, Yost, LaRose, basically the Ohio republican leadership were silent on the issue.

If you want to win, you have to fight.

That’s why I’m a Trump supporter. He’s a fighter. In my lifetime, he’ll probably be the last one for me. So, I’m sad right now.

Issue 1 ...in Ohio

Pardon my Southern ignorance, but can some damnyank educate me on what kind of issues Ohio has? Besides the obvious ones, of course. Mainly, those which have to do with being Ohio.

Bringing issues up for statewide votes and direct democracy is retarded. This is why we aren't a democracy.

Issues should be handled by representatives who were elected via caucus.

Issue 1 proposed that 60% of the vote would have to be in favor of passing a constitutional amendment. The blue-haired leftist cucks wanted to vote no so that there doesn’t have to be a lot people in favor of amending the constitution in order for them to get their right to kill unborn babies and ban guns.

The Rs running this never explained it well.

The money ads the Dems ran literality said "don't mess with our constitution", and "they are trying to end majority rule"...

I had to explain what this was to way too many people for this to pass.

Just stupid to try and push this through without clear messaging, or ballot harvesting...

Shows that the R machine in Ohio is not all powerful.
That is kinda nice to know.

If you don't count Akron, Toledo, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Youngsville, Canton, Dayton, and a host of other smaller cities.

The fact that they have made poor decisions for tens of thousands of years is not exactly groundbreaking. At a certain point you have to be pragmatic.

Louisiana’s abortion ban is going to obliterate this state even further.

If it were just blue-haired leftist cucks then Issue 1 would have passed. The fact is, abortion laws are unpopular and a sure way to lose a national election. Issue 1 was all about abortion and it got stomped in an extremely important battle ground state.

Can someone educate me on this?

I just looked at this issue for the first time and it’s about raising the amendment percentage needed to pass to 60%.

Maybe I’m not up to date on the backstory, but what’s the abortion angle?
