Looking to get into smoking and I'd love to have something that could also replace my Weber kettle. Anyone have any recommendations? Is there a pellet smoker that performs well for grilling\searing and smoking? Budget under $1200ish probably.

Add a Spider Venom fan to your Weber. Best of both worlds.
I got a 17 hour smoke at 250 using a 2x2 snake. $200 and you get to keep using your kettle.
ETA: With the vortex insert and Venom I can get the grate over 700 degrees.

Backwoods smoker is a great smoker but it will not replace grill.

No
Get an offset stickburner

Masterbuilt gravity series is what you want. Have not used my offset once since getting one.

I would not want to replace my Weber with a pellet smoker for grilling and searing but thats just me.

As mentioned above, RecTeq, most can get up to 700 for grilling but also do well smoking. And they are built to last.

What in the pride month is this. We do not replace Weber kettles unless it is with another Weber kettle.

Keep the kettle for grilling and get an offset for smoking

what pellet grill were you using to come to this conclusion? model number, how high temp did you get it prior to searing and what did you use to sear?

They can sear but what happens when you need to move that steak to lower heat fast? Ive observed neighbors and friends cooking on theirs and look they are fine for what they offer but I prefer to grill and bbq with multizone heat that most pellet grills dont really do well by design. The are a few models like the Weber Smoke Fire that you can use direct flame and with some accessories to make multizone heat but by and large its indirect heat.
Also I just enjoy the process of cooking with wood and charcoal and the flavor it produces more than pellets or propane.

This is probably one of your better option if you want to go that route.

It offers direct flame and with wet smoke kit you can set up direct and indirect heat. So its pretty good at everything. Sticking with the with traditional charcoal and wood is my preference but I really enjoy the process and results. If you want soemthing less time consuming but still pretty versatile I would look into this one.

I use shelves to manage heat zones but don't use them often. Have a small and large one so I can do low and slow on one and high heat on the other. Also on the big one I can throw a wood chunk on the deflector for smoke if needed.
also for smoke, the lowest setting on either Recteq is for smoke and it produces a ton of it.
Bullseye goes to 750 so searing is not a problem.

I have looked at the Smokefire a bit. I was curious if anyone would recommend it or if there were better options at that price point.

Yep, wait til the end of the season and you can get them for around $200 from Walmart.
Ease of use of a pellet, closer taste to offset, and a damn good deal if you wait for the closeout pricing.

The new Camp Chef is bad arse. Has a box to put wood chunks in while it is still burning pellets. Allows more smoke flavor if thats what you want.

Looks like these would serve my purpose. Any particular model or is it just a difference in surface area between them?
