Fastest sitcom ever to reach the Cousin Oliver stage: Blackish

Cousin Kyra introduced season 5, episode 11.
New baby introduced earlier than that, but not really a Cousin Oliver in the traditional sense.
FYI the actual Cousin Oliver was season 5, episode 17 of the Brady Bunch. And to contrast that, Cousin K.C. joined Happy Days in season 10, episode 4. The Great Gazoo in season 6, episode 7 of the Flintstones.
Of these, only Happy Days has lasted a full season past the introduction of the new character.

Didn't Cousin Oliver join the Brady Bunch in season 5 too?

He also showed up in Season 5.

He showed up in season 7. Ergo Seven.
At least he got to nestle up to them puppies.

Cousin Oliver is that inexplicable kid added to the show's roster, usually in an attempt to liven up an aging cast with a character the younger demographics can (supposedly) relate to. However, such a character is likely to upset the dynamic of the show, especially since his only job is to be cute and innocently wisecracking. It's far too easy for the writers to miss "sweetly precocious" and tumble right into "overbearing and annoying", especially to the show's long-time fans (who don't see why this kid should be taking attention away from their favorite characters anyway). Depending on how deft the writers are at making him "lovable," Cousin Oliver can become a fan favorite or The Scrappy (or worse).

Stefan Urquelle was introduced in season 5 of Family Matters

Late additions, Butters (South Park) and Elmo (Sesame Street) are two rare exceptions that come to mind that actually became hugely popular in an already established cast of characters in a series.

When did Olivia, Raven Simone, join Cosby Show?

I stopped watching Modern Family years ago, but they introduced two kids later on.

The Blackish writers don't really seem to understand that the dynamic of generational conflict between the adults is far more interesting than anything they've ever had the kids do.
Maybe they just don't want to pay Laurence Fishburne.

Frasier, Woody and, to a lesser degree, Rebecca on Cheers
COL Potter on MASH (certainly more so than BJ or Winchester, the other significant replacements)

Manny from Modern family fits this to a tee. He is so obnoxiously awful, and has been from almost the beginning of the show.

Yea but wasn’t he on the show from the start? The daughter that was adopted fits this to a T.

Airwolf replaced the entire cast with a younger lineup and it crashed and burned. but that was kind of a reboot of sorts.

...or he quits them because they are unfair.

Lily? She was there from the start too though. If you want to talk about the cousin Oliver thing, it should be Joe (Jay and Gloria's kid).
My point with Manny wasn't that he is a cousin Oliver. It was that the writers struggled with that balance I quoted from the beginning of the show, and it's only gotten worse over the years.

The new baby was the shark jumper. The whole "will they/won't they get a divorce" season only made it worse.
Cousin Kyra was post-shark, IMO.
