What if the person actually quit smoking over 3 years ago? Isn't this product designed to wean you off cigarettes? It actually seems like a permanent fixture in the life of an acquaintance of mine.

Perhaps I need a refresher in the physiology of addiction, because I don't think that's how this works.

Just the act of chewing gum, any gum, is trashy.

Nicotine alone isnt particularly bad for you other than the addiction.

The other shite in cigs and dip is what is bad for you.

It's supposed to wean you off nicotine.
I guess it doesn't work for everyone.

I quit smoking cigarettes over 5 years ago and I still chew gum on occasion but mostly use the nicorette lozenges. I will take that over smoking a cancer stick any day.

Most addicts just replace one vice with another.

Would you rather have them blow smoke constantly?

any benefits to nicotine? Nicotine without any negatives sounds like a nice hobby.

Cigarettes are both a mental and physical addiction. Sounds like someone has half the battle down.

Somebody I worked with has been chewing Nicolette for ten years. His father died of lung cancer from smoking. He quit smoking soon after that.

If chewing Nicolette for the rest of your life prevents you from ever picking up a cigarette again than that’s a huge win in my book.

You could argue it’s not really giving anything up.

You’d be wrong since it’s giving up the tar, fiberglass, 1000 chemicals, etc. that we’re literally killing you.

Not trashy.

Yes. But nicotine is nicotine and it's just another delivery device. So are patches. So are vape pens.

But patches/gum/vape pens are a lesser evil. It's not really the nicotine that kills you, it's the combustion/smoke/other chemicals.

It's the nicotine that's addictive.

I quit cold turkey. Sucked physically for about 3 days. Was a psychological battle after that. I dreamed about dipping for a few years. Now I don't think about it at all.

It only takes about 3 days for the nicotine to leave your system. That was a big mental benchmark for me, knowing it was all mental after that.

How do you get off the gum if the gum got you hooked on nicotine?

I briefly smoked for less than a year. Was hooked on the gum over a decade. Chewed way more than i smoked. Now i’m on the step 2 patch and i still have cravings. Found myself digging in car crevices for a piece the other day. Nicotine is a hell of a drug.

ETA i never found a piece so still standing strong.

I quit smoking 60 days ago after 25+ years being at least a pack a day. I bought a nicotine free vape and a pack of Nicorette gum. After spending $20 for 20 pieces of gum a couple of times I decided it wasn't worth it. Been completely nicotine free for 35 days.

Not nearly as trashy as a single mom who thinks she is settling at 30 years old.
