Where are we headed??

quote:

The federal government wound up its fiscal year in September with a deficit just shy of $1.7 trillion, the Treasury Department announced Friday.

Wrapping up a year in which some thought the shortfall could exceed $2 trillion, the U.S. ended up with an imbalance of $1.695 trillion, up about $320 billion, or 23.2%, from fiscal 2022.

The huge deficit came as revenue fell by $457 billion from a year ago and expenses decreased by just $137 billion. Outlays for the year totaled $6.134 trillion.

The budget shortfall adds to the staggering U.S. debt total, which stood at $33.6 trillion earlier this week. The deficit level was eased some when the Supreme Court voided President Joe Biden’s effort to erase billions in student loan debt.

That number has swelled by more than $10 trillion since the first quarter of 2020, when the Covid pandemic hit and pushed the government into a spending spree aimed at making up for the damage done to the economy.

Republicans take control of Congress and immediately add 2 trillion to the deficit. Really helped right the shite.

All the trillions we take in and it’s still not enough to feed the beast

There is a problem and Congress is too chickenshite to do anything about it

They only took control of 1/2 of Congress.

I know compound interest is a force multiplier, but ~1/3 of the total debt in the last 3.5 years? We are so fricked

I'm hoping my grandkids are in another country. Family moved in the late 1700s from Scotland when shite hit the fan over there. Time to move on. It's been a good run.

Dumb post. Remember Schumer got McConnell and 18 Republican senators to pass an omnibus for FY 2023, neutering the incoming Republican house. Their first opportunity was FY2024. McCarthy reneged on his promises to the Republican caucus in January to get the speakership, agreed to debt ceiling with democrats, not republicans, through the 2024 election, and he then lost his speakership.

Here we are.

We have a MAGA minority. GOPe are democrats. So for all practical purposes, there are 300 or so uniparty representatives, and 100 MAGA.

We need to divorce from the Republican Party. Now.
