I think it would be a good thing to have, but I worry about the affect on flooding in the area.

A spokesperson who works with Aztek Cove said there is currently no sales tax being generated from the property comprising the EDD. They added that no tax dollars would be used to build the development and no tax revenue would be generated until the construction is completed. Then it will be used only to reimburse the cost of construction across 40 years.
“Hey Councilwoman Coleman, Councilman Gaudet isn’t playing ball. Can you propose this EDD over here outside of your District so that tax payers can fund my $35M development. I’ll be sure to take care of you once this passes.”

The area south/sw of Highland is definitely flood prone. I doubt development of the higher land of Highland Rd will affect any additional flooding that wasn’t already inevitable in the lower elevation areas.

What a load of shite. This is the last thing that needs a TIF applied to it. There aren't enough infrastructure upgrades being done to justify a tax break. The developer needs to suck it up and pay for it.

I don’t see why except in rare instances these districts should be approved. It reeks of cronyism and gives one developer advantages over another; while the developer getting the tax breaks gets to tax the infrastructure.

In the 60’s a whole new tax district was created for a powerful land owner on the West Bank of New Orleans. It financed levee’s and pumps. There is a racetrack and golf course. there now among other things.
The old farmhouse/ camp was near the pump station. It has been mentioned in some novels. LIFE magazine did a write up on it.
Rabbits all around that place !! we shot them by the pickup truck full hunting with dogs and at night. The law didn’t go there unless they were shooting too.

They created 5 of these districts in Lafayette a few years ago.
The map was created with more holes than swiss cheese in order to avoid a vote by the people that live in the area.
They increased the sales tax in those districts.
The developers swarmed the council meetings in favor, wanting to get their hands on those funds. One of the people there speaking in favor of the districts later opened a restaurant outside of them.
