Little twist to the usual apocalypse threads. If an event happened that forced everyone to live “off grid”, how long could you make it? In this scenario other people are not a threat. This is strictly you surviving by your own sheer will.

I feel like I could make it a few weeks for sure, but once all the deer and squirrels are gone I honestly don’t know what I’d do. Hopefully my gardening skills would improve quickly.

THIS IS NOT A MAJOR WAR/COMBAT SCENARIO. Just you having to survive on your own. No electricity, fuel supply is gone, it is 100% on you.

Added:

For those saying “a long time, I have deer/cattle/pig”. What are you going to do after you butcher it? How are you going to keep it from spoiling? There’s no electricity. No freezers. Salt cure? Meat will go fast if you’re killing one for every meal. What about when you’re on day three and haven’t been able to harvest a kill and your family is noticeably hungry? For those with a well, how are you going to run your pump? No gas/electric for cooking. Build a fire outside? What about when it’s rained for 2 days straight. How many have an actual wood burning fireplace for the winter?

We’ll say your house. But the vehicles don’t work. So any travel will have to be done by foot.

I’ve read One Second After.

It was good and probably, mostly realistic.

The game will be gone in 2 weeks. And in a month there won’t be squirrels, birds, fish nor insects left to eat.

My plan is to start walking to farm country and trade my labor and being part of the protection team for food.

YouTube Link to One Second After the audiobook.

This is what will get me. I dabble in gardening and am in no way efficient enough to provide for my family with it alone. One drought and that’s it.

Thread after thread on the Rant from angry people who can’t make it through a football game without having to rely on a concession stand’s food to survive makes me think the end will come quick for many.

According to my cardiologist, I’d last as long as my supply of 10mg of Coumadin a day held out. Once that’s gone, I’d last probably about four days.

Knowing how to hunt, fish, and garden will pay dividends if a time like this arises. Also, alcohol and tobacco will be more scarce - knowing how to ferment mead will take care of at least one of those vices.

If the entire country was impacted and we had to fight a war against say China, half the population wouldn't survive a year. They'd be no help coming. If only a region of the country was impacted and there wasn't a major war we had to fight, it would be more like hurricane relief, but on a massive scale.

Alone on History Channel

I think being near a water source for fishing is ideal. My biggest takeaway from Alone is that you can’t survive long term with regular game and foraging. You need the fats and nutrients from fish to at least maintain your current weight.

Awesome. I’ll just be a threat to all those idiots and become a warlord.

I only have a six months supply of contacts so as soon as my glasses broke it would be over. I would not be able to see.

I have a cattle farm in small town remote Mississippi. Have 300 head of cattle, a working water well, couple bass and catfish ponds, arable land, wild turkey, deer, and other small game, and a full home propane generator. All fenced in and could easily protect with the arsenal we’ve obtained through the years. Think i’ll be alright. Just have to figure out how to get there when shite hits the fan
