ALACHUA, Fla. (WCJB/Gray News) - Deputies in Florida say two upset siblings stole their mother’s car and drove hours away from home before they were pulled over.

Deputies stopped a 10-year-old boy and his 11-year-old sister driving on Interstate 75 in the city of Alachua around 3:50 a.m. Thursday. The car had been reported stolen out of North Port, according to WCJB.

During the traffic stop, deputies were surprised to see the 10-year-old exit the car on the driver’s side. Then, his 11-year-old sister stepped out of the passenger side.

The siblings had been reported missing to the North Port Police Department.

quote:

According to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, the siblings were upset at their mother because she took away their electronic devices. It’s believed the devices were confiscated because the children “were not using them appropriately,” authorities say.

The two were headed to California, the Associated Press reports. They were about 200 miles and three hours away from home when they were stopped.

Another reason EVs are better than ICE.

They would have never made it that far in an EV.

Were they?

Gotta think if the car was reported stolen AND the kids were missing that the cops had put 1 and 1 together.

Kids watch and learn very quickly these days. My 2 year old grandson could turn on and drive my lawn mower if he was physically big enough to. He knows the steps without thinking twice.

I was just having this discussion the other day about how kids nowadays are just skipping misdemeanors and jumping straight to felonies all because they cant handle their emotions.

We've created all these safe spaces and they cant react rationally when they're confronted with adversity.

Not even real adversity.

It ain't like they were in a two story playhouse with a fireman's pole lighting off three packs of daisy chained Black Cat firecrackers and they lost all sense of space when the fuse was lit. The ground comes at you quick when you don't slide down the pole. A broken tailbone will hurt you the rest of your days.

Anyway, yeah....adversity.
