Southern Baptists Oust Oklahoma Church Over Pastor Performing in Blackface

This is a weird story IMO. The event in question took place in 2017 at a church banquet. Evidently the skit was done as a tribute to Ray Charles. No one is claiming malicious intent. Tone deafness, perhaps, but not malice. But the Southern Baptists of Oklahoma decided to oust the church.

I'm so over the SBC as a whole. An uproar over black face - which is a politically charged topic that I don't care to engage in- and yet the SBC will literally sweep sexual assault under the rug to protect their own while proudly broadcasting their misogyny. done with the whole organization.

I'm not a fan of the current SBC, see my post above, but this is factually false. The SBC literally did the opposite. They actually went OVERBOARD letting the world know what was going on to score political points at the expense of pastors who were simply accused and never verified to be guilty. It became an internal witch hunt.

frick "tone deafness." If your "tone" is that you can't distinguish between someone saying or doing something that is intended to be hateful and something that isn't, then the problem is you. Words don't have magical powers. Face paint also doesn't have magical powers that totally depend on the person's actual skin color.

my personal experience is quite different. perhaps, regionally there are some differences that do not align, but I'd be hard-pressed to ever see genuine concern about the safety and wellbeing of females, especially young females, that supersedes that of the pastoral staff.
