Mine is about 15 months now and she just now had her 2nd confirmed full-on seizure. Total loss of body control, heavy breathing, drooling, bladder control that lasted for a couple minutes.

I researched some after her first seizure and found this bread has a bit higher risk of epileptic seizures than most. Taking her to the vet again tomorrow.

Yes. Stage 4 heart failure.
But, this was an older dog.
Medicine can help. Talk to your vet immediately

Idiopathic epilepsy is becoming more and more prevalent these days in dogs. Keppra (or the generic for it) has been a life saver for our dog, but the downside is you have to give him a pill twice a day at the exact same time everyday.

I have a friend that fought this for years..tried EVERYTHING. Vet blew off the potential that it might be a thyroid issue..
Gave a thyroid med trial reluctantly...
It was a thyroid issue..
Good info on the internet about it.

Yup. Ours had them about that age and stopped a year or so later. She would lie on the floor looking like she was spaced out. Not much the vet can do and they didn't hurt her.

Anytime I hear about a dog having seizures I recommend ruling out flea/tick medicine. Both the topicals and orals can cause seizures. I had a dog about 12 years ago before the connection was solid that we connected application of topical flea meds to his seizures, stop the meds and he never had another seizure in his last 7 years. There was plenty of anecdotal evidence on the web at the time but now at least the orals come with a warning, not sure about the topicals.

Yep.

The vet will put it on one of two medicines. Fairly easy to manage with a pill, and you might need to identify and eliminate triggers.

I've known two epileptic dogs who lived to be 14.

Our "Beenie Weeny" has seizures pretty regular. Read up on it and it seems pretty common in the breed. Meds might work but administering them is problematic. Beenie's lasts about 10 minutes and then she's back to normal. Of course, I always anticipate 'the big one'. That sucks! Lost a beloved part Collie and Lab way back, "Pepper". Broke our hearts. Vet said she had a tumor on the brain. Had to put her down as the seizure wouldn't stop. She was in hell.

Life is hard if you love. Different kind of hard if you don't. I chose the love and pain.

Hope your little friend gets well.

Had a shar-pei mix that had seizures. Turned out to be a reaction to wheat gluten. We were lucky. All it took was a simple change in dog food.

I saw a non-breed specific article that said a more "keto-style" diet could help lessen or prevent some seizures.

We have a weim that has them. Not sure what the trigger is. We think it’s something do do with grain as we read that could have affect. We changed food and it has stopped but he has them from time to time and we noticed it’s when he eats shite he isn’t supposed to. I’ve often wondered about the file and tick meds as well. It’s scary stuff. Total shakes, loss of bladder control, drooling. Goes on for what feels like forever. Then he comes down. I hate it for him.

really is a terrifying experience. I was able to jolt her out of it last night by loudly calling her name. At first it just caused a pause in the seizure then it started back after a few seconds. Second time I hollered her name, it brought her back completely and the look of panic and worry in her eyes just tore me up all night.

She wears a collar and I did bring that up when I went to the vet. They told me the amount of cases that could possibly be linked to the spicific type of collar I use is on par with why they have to put side effects on bottles of aspirin.
