Who else’s wife jumps the gun on taking kids to the doc?

I swear my wife (no pics) will want to take my kids to the doc for a sneeze literally right after it happens (being a little sarcastic but you get my drift). Panic sets in. I love my kids to death but I come from the mindset of give it a day or two and see how it plays out.
Kid has a sore throat and threw up two times yesterday. This morning he’s ok but still has a sore throat. Off to the doc we go.
Am I being a hard arse or how does everyone else handle this stuff. Genuinely curious.

Yeah that seems a bit excessive, but some people just have to know. I think giving it a couple of days is sensible

Are you having to go with them or is she handling it all? If the latter, who cares, drink a beer and watch the baseball game.

If the kid is throwing up it’s probably a virus, which the doctor can do little about.

We've learned 80-90% of the time the pediatrician (rightfully so) will just send them back home with instructions for OTC medicine. We've adjusted accordingly.

Nah, kids bounce back quick but they also get sick a lot. If they aren't good after 2-3 days then go to the doc or if the symptoms actually warrant a visit. 99% of the time they are going to treat with OTC meds anyway.

When our first was little, my wife would rush him to the pediatrician anytime he showed the slightest sign of being sick. After a while though she figured out the diagnosis was almost always a “viral infection” with the treatment being Children’s Tylenol for fever and maybe some cough syrup. By the time our second child came she was more deliberate with the doctor’s visit.

I Hate little kids...and this is another reason why.
But then again I come from Viking Stock and if our kids get real sick we send them out into the Wilderness.
They either get better on their own or we never see them again..

Not my wife, but my SIL. She made my brother take her to the ER for a tick on top of her foot. Not imbedded, jut a small tick that had just attached.
To this day, I don't know who to laugh at harder. Her for wanting to go to the ER, or my brother for taking her!

If I find a tick on me I’m going to the doctor for antibiotics. Lyme is not something I care to play around with.

Not really. One time our daughter was riding her scooter and took a fall. She hit her head off to ER we went.
She also had a straddle injury on her new bike. She was about 8. Naturally, we took her to the DR. Also put a pool noodle on the center bar on her bike.

I have 5 little ones. We've learned it's best to treat the fever by rotating Tylenol and Ibuprofen. If the fever persist for more than a couple days, then we bring them to the ENT. It's pretty much always an ear infection with our kids, which requires antibiotics. Viral stuff will just run it's course.

Did you not notice this behavior before the marriage and kids?

Been there

We don’t rush off to the doctor when it comes to cold like symptoms. We treat OTC and if nothing improves in a couple of days, then we’ll bring them in to see their pediatrician.

Checking in. Got swindled in to taking ours last week. Pediatrician said there was nothing wrong

Most Parents that bring their kids to the ER for everything are such a pain in the arse.

My wife works in health care. It had to be bad for her her to send the kids to the Dr.
