For my first kid, I ran her to the doctor for every little thing. I was 50 miles away from both sets of parents, and I was terrified that I was doing something wrong.
Second one comes along, and it’s all good.
I think that’s a big part of all of the doc appointments. Parents don’t always have someone more experienced to tell them what to expect, and how to treat the little things.
That’s just me though.

I think birth order plays a role in this.

I bet your wife was a first or second kid. She was probably rushed to the doctor all the time herself growing up.

Now if she was the fourth kid, she likely had to lose a leg or worse to see a doctor.

That has to leak over to a person’s parenting methods.

Maybe because it can develop into scarlet fever?

Scarlet fever is rare now, but that’s the cause of the ‘fear porn’

Almost every time I resist a dr visit for the kids, they end up needing a dr. A mothers intuition is pretty impressive.

My wife tries, usually I talk her down. When I get sick, I pump myself full of vitamin C and sleep. That's what I tell her to do with the kids, at least for the first day or so. If that does nothing, it may not be viral and I'll give her the green light.

That is the reason we are becoming extremely weak. Tell your wife when your kid has a little cough or something give it a day and if it is getting better let your kids immune system do its job. Doctors are overprescibing antibiotics just for minor shite. It was like some people I seen freaking the frick out when they got Covid. A friend of my wife went hysterical and wanted to make sure they had a bed and a vent at the hospital and all that. She was in her mid 30s not over weight and had no health issues. We told just chill and see how it progresses. She ended up having a headache and was tired for 2-3 days. Thank goodness my wife and I think the same way on this.

If it’s strep it could be serious if left untreated

Was she bleeding? What the heck is a Dr. going to do when a female hits a bike bar? I am truly curious.

Yeah my wife looked she was certainly bleeding.

Took her to Peds Associates and her physician verified that her hymen was intact. His daughter had something worse happen when she was around the same age.

Which brings me to a rant. Why the hell do bikes have to have a gender assignment? Having a center bar is even worse for boys. Just design bikes with a low center bar and use paint color to assign gender. Completely stupid.

would’ve checked temperature, given Advil, and waited a day or two. Things clear up on their own.

Same here, but if my kid misses two consecutive days of school then you have to have a Dr note to return. May as well make that visit early and get some prescription meds.

I cringe when I hear my wife talking to her mom about taking the kids to the doctor because they are coughing.

I’m like, have you ever been to the doctor? Has anyone been successful at stopping a cough? There are some things that your body wants to do that you just have to allow it to do. It’s true for kids and adults.

We are currently giving antibiotics and my wife is almost crying that our 4 y/o is being an a-hole about taking them, and I’m biting my tongue wondering does he even need this? He is acting fine. But now he is sick again a week later with a stomach bug.

I would say my wife does except her rate of being correct is pretty high, so I’ve learned to chill and trust her instincts. If the results had been different over time I’d probably have to say something as far as establishing some parameters for when they need to go in.
