Contaminated Gasoline

Filled up my vehicle at a Shell station in Slidell at the end of December. Within five minutes, the car was barely drivable. I was able to make it to a mechanic not far away and left it.
He called later that day to say that there was definitely water in the fuel pump, and he was going to remove the entire fuel tank to clean it and get things working again.
A friend advised me to call the state department of units in measurements. They had someone come out the next day to take samples, and within a few days sent me verification that the gas was contaminated and contained a significant amount of water. When I went to pick up my vehicle two days later, all of the pumps at the station were closed. I went into the Shell with my receipt, the letter from the state, and my repair bill, which was nearly $900. I have done everything I can to reach the owners and the people working at the gas station keep assuring they have received all of the information.
It has been two months now without a response and I am considering having an attorney take over for me. Has anyone ever had this happen, and if so, who eventually ended up being responsible for the damages?

Due to the amount go to Small Claims Court (you won't need a lawyer); should be a slam dunk.

You need to find out who their insurance company is and file a claim. That'll get the ball rolling.

Thanks. I was considering doing this. I have tried to go through the Secretary of State to find out the owners information but keep hitting a dead end. All of the associated phone numbers don’t work, and neither does the one listed for the gas station itself.

Better call Alexandra Shannara.

This issue is always at shell stations.
Makes me want to start looking at my gas like you do with small planes. I would be the nut swirling a beaker looking for liquid seperation.

Use an Erlenmeyer flask instead you will look less nutty and more erudite.

A few years ago Sears crumpled my van by putting it on the lift wrong. Their insurance company’s job was to stall me and make me give up. Luckily a friend of our was a lawyer and after 1 call to the GM I had a check after months of them avoiding me. If you know a lawyer maybe have them make a couple of calls for you since the majority of these businesses are owned by scumbags hell bent on not doing the right thing

Thank you. Good to know. Hope you get this taken care of. I'd go to small claims court with it like someone else mentioned earlier.
I had to bring a case to small claims court years ago in Slidell and it was pretty easy. Go to the courthouse in Old Town and ask to speak to someone at the desk about filing. They're helpful. Good luck

Call Shell directly and see if they can tell you who the fuel distributor is. That's who has the direct relationship with Shell. You can then try calling the distributor and they should be able to help.

usually a business will have the business licenses on public display. get the name and then look it up on the Secretary of States web page.

Where I am it is usually Race Track. Used to you could bet on seeing at least one car sitting on the shoulder down from the one nearest me. Sometimes you'd see two or three vehicles broken down. They were notorious for selling shite gas, and why anyone local would buy from them was beyond me. They're out of business now, so you dont see near as many abandoned rides on that stretch of road now.

Did you ask the employees at the gas station for the owners name and they refuse to give it to you?
I believe it is a Nepali owned business by family named Karki. If you have a throwaway email you want to post I have some leads I can send you w addresses, phone numbers.

check your auto policy as you should be covered, Liberty Mutual paid me right off for a similar incident and they recovered the money from the stations insurance company. Pretty seamless. I filled up and drove about a mile away and it was like a rodeo until it died....New Silverado had it towed to dealership only to find water and algae.
