Camel Girls - What's the Scam?

Do yall remember in the 90's and early 2000's when nightclubs had "Camel Girls" that were dressed up real pretty and walking around like Larry Culpepper with cigarettes instead of Dr. Pepper? The cigarettes were free, you fill out all your information from your drivers license and the camel girl verifies it is real information, and you get a free pack of smokes.
I knew some of these girls and they made a lot of money, almost as much as the bartenders were making.
But I can't figure out what the scam was. They basically got a mailing address to send coupons to. That can't possibly be worth what these girls were making.

I never saw them but I'm guessing they were the same as the bud-girls, jager-girls, red bull girls, etc. The goal was to get your attention for marketing and get people to talk about them.

I think the scam was that no one ever got one hump, let alone two.

"Hi Sally. We haven't talked in 24 years but I tracked you down on social media because I was wondering what the scam was with the painted whore camel girls like yourself. Can you tell me how the org chart worked, and how the money flowed? Would be cool to catch up with you over a cup of coffee some time"

I took one home one night from Parkway Tavern back in the late 90's.... No ragerts...
They basically worked for a promotional company, and pushed what ever company hired them.
It's the lowest tier of the modeling profession.

I live in Winston-Salem (Camel City). They wanted you to smoke more. They wanted you to get hooked if you weren’t already.
At NASCAR races they used to toss out free cartons of cigarettes. That’s like a $70 value now.

my cousin did this in Baton Rouge around 2000 or so. She used to just give me a whole bunch of free packs every night

I was always a picayune man. Unfiltered. 2 packs a day at my prime.

I googled "camel girls" to find picture of what you were talking about and couldn't find anything. But I did find this camel ad:

That's disgusting, man. How much nicotine could there even be in newsprint?
