So, as we all are well aware, New Orleans is, and has been for awhile, a city in decline for a number of reasons. Not much good news comes from there anymore. Definitely depressing.

What I want to talk about today as someone who is not from New Orleans and would like to know more is… when were the glory days of New Orleans? What era would you say is when the city was thriving the most?

And for those who were around during the city’s better days, what was it like living in Nola at that time?

1960s---Trade Mart, clean(ish) streets, cheap rent, cops that could beat up trouble makers, safe Mardi Gras.

1920s or some time before the Civil War was probably the apex.

Decline started in the 70s... like most places in this country.

I'm just spit balling here, but I'd wager that the glory days of most of the major urban areas of the United States was probably 1945-1965. The apex of American power was 1945-1950, when we were the only one with "the bomb."

Before the French arrived. And it should be allowed to return to that state.

That was when a few other somewhat similarly situated Sun Belt type cities started their booms, though.

So you’re saying the glory days were before the city was founded??

In 1970 it was the 10th largest city in America. They slowly let the scum take over the city.

Population peaked in the late 60s if that is a metric for glory days.

It's probably when people started escaping to the North Shore.

This didn't seem correct on first glance.

This says it was 19th:

I don't think it's been top 10 in population since the Civil War.

Yeah, I mean I wasn't around then but the 70s and 80s weren't bad, but the decline was there and exponential and rocketed up in the 90s and beyond, still getting exponentially worse

Seems accurate Wiki

Decline started in 1830 for importance.
