Riding around on Christmas morning and seeing how much land is devoted to parking lots

It might be the only day of the year when almost all of them are empty. With no vehicles around the scale of all those asphalt surfaces at strip malls and Walmarts becomes readily apparent. What if they weren’t needed and were something else?
As a society we certainly spend a lot of our time, resources, and land on our vehicles.

We should make every parking lot a wind turbine

We had millennia of being stuck at home with philosophers like you. We were motivated.

Definitely doesn’t help with flooding.

Contributes a bunch to increased flooding risk as well.

Correct, as the vehicle is the most efficient mode of transportation we have. It allows us to bring food and clothing home. It allows us to connect with friends and family. It allows us to travel to see other parts of the country and learn more about who we are.
I don't see the problem.

There are pros and cons I think.
The pros you mentioned.
The cons we could go into.
My only point is to take a moment to consider it all on a macro scale and ponder if it is the best way overall, and let your mind wander to what life would be like in another system not so devoted to automobiles.

Thinking of all the dildo stores that could take the place of those pesky parking lots?

This post has me thinking that I need to go and get another vehicle for Christmas. Three isn’t enough

R/frickcars would be a good place for you to visit

Man already lived that life...and it led to the automobile.

I have 4 cars in my family, but only 2 drivers.

Just the opposite. A good flood control plan will utilize the increased drainage capacity and ground stabilization of large swaths of parking lots to channel and contain potential floodwater drainage.

Do you really have that little to do

It's the quickest way to get away from takes like these, pro automobile

This is true. Past man didn’t have work from home, 3D printing, or drone delivery or rideshare apps though.
Maybe our system is increasingly antiquated. I dunno.

I was looking for an open store to get something for the family dinner later.
Why the hostility?

Try reading any nonfiction book written before 1900. Hint: they are mostly centered on farm life or seafaring.
