Just another day in the Big Easy
I doubt NOPD is gonna do shite if you call them
quote:
The NOPD said that an unknown individual stole the vehicle from its owner with the owner's child inside. The vehicle was discovered later on Sunday in the 6100 block of Louisville Street with the child still inside and unharmed.
quote:
Although the NOPD said that their police report for the incident is not yet complete, the incident is not classified as a carjacking because the chain of events do not fit its legal definition.
quote:
Anyone with information that can assist in this investigation is urged to contact NOPD Third District detectives at 504-658-6030. Those wishing to report information anonymously can call Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans at 504-822-1111

At least the carjacker was smart enough to know that Kidnapping is a massively more serious charge

To be a carjacking it needs to be forcibly stolen. If you leave your car running and someone takes it. It's a lessor charge then if they force you out the car.

Although he abandoned the car and left the child unharmed, he is still guilty of kidnapping.

What are call times currently? 60 minutes? 90?
I'm going to have to spend more time in New Orleans for work over the next few months, I think I may dress as a spent shell casing just so I can blend in.

What are the details of the person leaving their car running with the baby inside?
Did they go inside their house?
Did they go inside their house?

They are protecting their demographic. This is kidnapping if not carjacking.

I have this irrational fear that this will happen to me.
Like they'll pull a gun and make me get out and I will say let me get my son out the car, and they just take off. No idea why, but I think about this scenario far more than I should.
I guess if it happens I either hope they'll let me grab him, or I'll have to fight and risk getting shot. I've played umpteen scenarios out in my mind.

The dude got out of his car to move some debris out of the road and some one jumped in his car and took off
Sounds like a set up

It's more likely the carjacker abandoned the baby simply out of habit.

This is kidnapping if not carjacking.
Kidnapping is a serious felony offense resulting in significant fines and prison time upon conviction. It is a federal offense under 18 U.S.C. 1201.
A soft, bought DA would not be able to just send them home once the fed gets a hard-on for them, if caught. I bet NOPD takes fingerprints, then destroys them.

Lucky for him NOPD doesn’t give a shite. Car and baby returned, move along.

But, but, but, but, Lakeview is still safe and relatively crime free.
