Los Angeles Dodgers Hall of Fame great Tommy Lasorda has been hospitalized in Orange County. Lasorda, 93, was admitted and he is in intensive care, resting comfortably. The family appreciates everyone’s thoughts and prayers; however, they request their privacy at this time.

CSB:

I got to meet and escort Tommy Lasorda to Lou Holtz’s office after the Carolina-Clemson game in 2001.

I was 16 and worked at the stadium that season as “Event Staff” and after guarding the end zone by the student section after the game I worked my way toward Carolina’s tunnel. I was just about there when someone grabbed my shoulder and yanked me around asking “Hey! You know where Lou’s office is? Gotta go see Lou.” To my shock it was TL.

All I could get out was a weak “Yes sir Mr. Lasorda, follow me it’s right over here.”

When we got to Coach Holtz’s door I knocked and heard him say it’s open and as I barely pushed it open he literally shoved me outta the way to greet his friend. This was also when I learned that Lou smoked a wood pipe. Both of them thanked me and TL shook my hand when I said no problem glad I could help.

Talk about seeing two great sports personalities side by side, it was a real treat to help assist him there.

The family is asking for privacy...that's never a good thing. He is from Norristown, PA and is Mike Pizza's brother's (Tommy Piazza) Godfather.

Norristown is where Bill Cosby was convicted.

And that's how Mike Piazza even got drafted way down in the 62nd round, that relationship. Ultimately leading him to the HoF (the lowest round drafted player to have that honor).

I've had the opportunity toert Tommy Lasorda at various LSU baseball clinics and the guy was fantastic. Even years later I ran into him at a restaurant at L.A. and I mentioned meeting him as a kid at LSU and he spoke fondly of the experience and how he met so many fantastic people.

I hope he gets well and gets past this.

I'll never forget his guest appearance on CHiPS as a speeding motorist.

ETA he and Dale Brown are pals too

There's a Tony and a Tommy? A college friend grew up on their street in Phoenixville, maybe? Tony was her first crush lol.
